I still need some encouragement before I buy .

Hello all, I'm thinking real hard on buying this game, but still have questions . Not to sound crazy, but never paid 75 dollars for a alpha game . So here is a few more questions .

1, What can I build in the current alpha ?
2,What is the coaster editor like ?
3, Is there a turatorial video ?
4, System requirments ?

My current PC specs....
i7 4790k 4.0-boost 4.4
500GB HD
8GB ram
MSI gaming 970
windows 7 64

Thanks for your help .

1. You can build rides, queues, paths, shops, scenery and take advantage of the modular building system. Additionally, the coaster editor is not unlocked by default but can be accessed in this alpha.

2. The coaster editor is simplistic yet versatile. It allows for coasters to be created pretty easily using locked increments on angles and track length, or you can disable the increments for extreme fine-tuning. Tracks are built piece by piece by adjusting the length, height, curvature and banking of each piece. It's still lacking station customization (though you can use modular building for it), track/car coloring, lift hill/brake speeds and several other features, which explains its pseudo-exclusion from the alpha. I've had a lot of fun with it but it still has a long way to go.

3. There are thousands of videos on YouTube and live streams every day. Watch a few of them and you'll be up to speed in no time.

4. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/planet-coaster/13269

The game is incredibly well optimized for an alpha, so it shouldn't give you much trouble at all.

As above you can't name stalls yet and shops are not in it for an alpha it's very good there are a few niggles but I am shour it's just things that have not been put in yet . If you like the old RCT's you will like this it was/is being developed by the same team that developed RCT 3 it is the TRUE successor of RCT's crown long live Planit Coster.

There is a small "but"

It does not have to be, but it could be that you will experience some difficulties at the moment. My guess would be 90% working fine.
Only sometimes you have to look things up or ask here, test game settings, contact Frontier to get things sorted or you have to work a bit on your system.
Though the game is already well done it could crash (but there is an autosave) or it does funny things.

It is important that you read this:

I think it is an brilliant game and though there is not much content yet, there is enough to do and learn.

Buy it, but be patient. If you want instant access, rapid replies from support staff, and all the features, and you get mad easily when things go wrong, well, don't buy.
Check the system specs page first.

Part of the Alpha is figuring out system configurations that don't work well. A few dozen users have reported errors and graphics issues in the alpha support forum, and generally it takes less than a day (if the conversation is civilized) for either the community or Frontier to figure out what's up and get you in. It may take 2-3 days. Be patient please.

But, for 95% of players, they are in immediately. Took me about 2 hours of updating graphics drivers and windows updates to get on.
Rude or abusive "stupid alpha isn't working" posts will probably just get you a refund and no help. So be patient, and be polite.

Once you are in. . . . oooooooooohhhhh yyyyeeeeeeeessssssss!!!!!!! freaken awesome. google and youtube and see ll the amazing creations already created after only a couple of weeks.

What is that draws impatient people to early access games? Is there a name for this phenomenon? [haha] I think there should be a test where you have to watch grass grow for an hour before being allowed access to test developmental stages.

lol I know. [big grin]

But I think it is obvious why impatient people are drawn to things like this. By their very nature they don't want to wait until release so the alpha offers the temptation of immediate gratification which often overshadows the warnings of 'not complete yet' with the thought 'but I will get to play it NOW!'. Then the impatience implodes [mad][cry] the dream when they see the devs were really telling the truth when they said 'not complete'...!! [rolleyes]

Yep, this is the answer I was looking for. I just wish there was a way to warn people that this is in no way a completed game and any shortcomings should be used to improve the development process, not as reason to request an immediate refund.

We paid '70 eggs'? for the alpha - not the game - we knew what we were doing and Frontier have a firm plan on what will be released and when. It is not up to us and they have probably scheduled things like this to maintain the standard set. They could have rushed content out more quickly then had a mess of an apha where most of it wasn't working and lot more crashes, just a more broken game generally. I know I would rather have slower updates and keep the standard set by the first alpha phase!

Have patience and enjoy what you have! Or stop playing and wait until it is released fully, play something else instead! [noob]

I have played way to many alphas/betas to count , so I know how it can be . But never paid 75 dollars for one . So if I understand you, you making the point that the updates are coming very slowly ?

Hi Sunbeam, you have near identical system specs to me and it's running smoothly @ 1440p. For the most part, anyway. Occasional random slowdowns when doing certain things (I was moving 3 connected restaurants and it chugged until I placed them then went back to buttery smooth).

The question of whether you should buy it is one that only you can answer. PC is definitely not a game yet. In all honesty it's basically just a scenery builder at this point, albeit a very versatile one [happy]. As such, you need to be quite creative and happy to set your own goals. If not, it's likely you'll get bored quite quickly. Personally, I'm having a great time and have put in quite a few hours since it launched but I'm also looking forward to the management side of the game when it's eventually released.

At the end of the day it's your money and your choice. Just make sure you know what you're getting yourself in for. If you're looking for a fully featured Tycoon game wait until release (or at least later in the Alpha when these features become implemented). If you're happy to tinker with the game as it is, give bug reports and feedback to the Devs, and have plenty of patience to wait for content updates every couple of months then dive in [wink]

Planet Coaster is a good game ! The boys make far a great job ! But if even a Alpha appears for 70 toads , I think it should at least appear a little more content . Little things , for example, trash , bank , new walls ... But you are right , just wait , it's early but wait is simply very difficult because I have already built an entire park ) Ark , for example , several weekly updates ... I thought there is frequent content but ok then just so : D

It's just a matter of whether you are prepared to pay $70 up front and enjoy this fantastic game from it's early alpha, or wait until its finished in about six to seven months from now and pay half the price. There are many thousands who have bought the Early Bird and are enjoying what's in the game so far, and this gives you the chance to get used to doing things. Ok there is a of a lot of content, not in the game yet and even the rides and coasters are very limited. But there is enough to make it enjoyable with no serious problems, that make it not playable. It's your choice, but if you want to get in from the start, then this game will not disappoint. But like I have said, it's up to the individual of how much you are prepared to pay, to be in from the start.

I believe that the price for the Alpha is mainly a tool to keep the number of Alpha players down to a motivated subset of people.

If you don't want to pay € 70 for the Alpha, I can fully understand. Grab the pre-order at € 29 (which I consider as a bargain) and come back in six months or so. But please don't complain here.
