General / Off-Topic i sure wish the forum was like it was two to three years ago

Paradoxical thread is paradoxical

Complains about non-game related content on forum, yet is non-game related content.

You know, when people talked about the game and not each other. People had ideas, hopes, dreams and were nice to one another (mostly) and there was literally a galaxy of possibilities.

Any chance we can get a "joined in 2014 or before" section? [big grin]

A lot of people still await some of the core game elements but we still have to wade through poor add-ons while we wait.
The wait has become tedious...

2-3 years of countless suggestion and game theory topics being ignored... It's no surprise people descended into madness

Lol, think you may be looking back with rose tinted specs......

...... pretty sure we always had ideas suggested that half loved and half hated.

Yeah, wasn't quite the days of peace and love back then, either.

There were a lot of the same threads with a lot of the same issues being raised. Any one of these could develop into some very fine representations of internet forum behavior:

"Mile wide, inch deep."

"Introducing new bugs instead of fixing the old ones."

"Crime and Punishment." Ah, Freeport Station at LP 98-132, where griefing in Elite Dangerous was born.

And for the grand finale, I got two words for you. "Vertical slice." Go back and find threads about that for some real warm fuzzies. :D

The more things change...

Agree with you. The atmosphere was so much more constructive and people weren't constantly asking for making ED easier, or for moar credits, or for stronger weapons, but rather about the unique points separating ED from other games. Ah, good times.

In all fairness, the idea that because another game did it first, we can't do it here (looking at you, every PVP system from every other MMO ever) is the direct cause of a lot of problems...

When ideas are being shot down, not on their merits, but because "this isn't EVE", some people should stop and have a good long think about their approach.

2 years ago we saw elite as foundation, the gamma was about to start, there wasn't huge issues with performance of the game and no connection issues like today. Also we still trusted to frontier to be able add a lot of stuff on top of what they had.

Then frontier failed to fill those dreams, elite was just bare bones and adding anything to it seems to be really slow and hard process. Frontier ins't small company yet still they have made little progress. Ubisoft delayed (yes UBISOFT DELAYED) dlc for the division a lot to make changes that pretty much fixed that game for most people who were happy to give the game new try and not just hate it. Rainbow six siege launched without anti cheat system but 6 months after release ubisoft added 2 anti cheat systems fair play (bans based on too good stats to be true, too high head shot, hit ration etc.) and battle eye (client side anti cheat software). They didn't need to do neither, they already had the money from both the rainbow six and division.

Survival game Rust have in past few months changed their crafting concept twice. An Early access developer made changes to to crafting system and players hated it, immediately devs said okey you don't like this we will do it again and few months later they changed the system again and players were much happier. Indie and small developer redesigned major part of their game and made it to game when they had a lot of other stuff they could have done.

Hello games just released patch for NMS that is big and a lot of new stuff and gameplay (base building, automated harvesting and mining equipment, player owned capital ships/freighters that can be customized, hire able npc that can do multiple stuff for you and that you see, resource/capital ship teleporting/summoning to your location, ability to "own planet" and creative mode so you can play without worrying about collecting resource). A lot of stuff we have been asking to be added to elite for 2 years and it took 3-4 months for them.

Frontier haven crushed most peoples dreams by their slow development (they have 300 full time workers) and the low quality of the stuff they release. If what they deliver worked it would still be very little but yet even that little they release doesn't work and elite is much buggier than on release. Which game have become more buggier after launch day. Frontiers actions both what they have released and what they say have undermined their community and made it toxic.

It's approximately 120 working on Elite IIRC.

Oh dear god yes. It was still decent when I joined in Feb 2015... It's gone downhill ever since :p

Seriously though I wish there was a separate forum for the people that arn't there to fight the same battle forever and ever. Mods, any chance of making a few new mega-threads and trawling some of the circular arguments in DD up?

How about a "joined in Apr 2014 or before" section? [big grin]

Seriously though there is the Private backers Forum.

At the time I was overworked and somehow didn't sign up, although I am still convinced I did. Biggest regret of my life....

Well, apart from war, the refugee crisis, global warming, political craziness and the general state of humanity.

Nostalgia isn't as good as it used to be.

It's still better than seeing 10 new threads about the same old "griefer and combat logger everywhere" hysterics everyday, blowing the whole non-issue totally out of proportion (haven't had problems with either in over 2000 hr play time in open and groups since autumn 2014).

2 years ago we didn't know what we know now.
The reality of ED has overtaken the hopes and dreams for ED, you can't turn back time.
And while that's certainly a matter of personal perception, the forum was no worse or better then than it is now, as far as i'm concerned.
