I think I might be addicted to exploration after just one big trip into the black.

Just a few weeks ago I got back from my first ever REAL exploration trip. I picked a random star and said "I'm going there and then coming back". 24k light years later I did exactly that. I hit Elite Explorer and made 230 million credits in the process. I came back to Rhea and started my Vette grind. Admittedly I have made very little progress there because lol rank grind, but I have been trucking away regardless. BUT....... Now no matter what I do in the game my brain ends with ".....or you could go exploring".

Okay time to do this trade mission.......or you could go exploring.

Okay I stacked 4 assassination missions. Lets go kill some pirates........or you could go exploring.

I need to find a good Res site to level my NPC pilot.........or you could go exploring.

Every. Single. Time.

I think I have a problem lol

I am stripping my Anaconda as I am typing this lol No idea where I am gonna go yet though.

Never been to Sagittarius A* tho........

It's personal, of course, but I never wanted to get Anaconda. I simply don't like the view from the cockpit. I'm flying with my 52 lyrs Krait Phantom after the AspX and totally satisfied with it (Asp was nice too), though I'm thinking about to get an FSD booster.. May be you can give yourself kind of "vacation" during your way to Anaconda. Just for the rest, lol.

The call of the black, yes, I know that feeling, but after a while space madness sets in for me and the yearning to see a station, or a uss or even an npc always brings me back home.

I tried the Krait and I enjoyed it, but for some reason I just like the feel of a big ship. The Krait felt like I was flying a feather and it just didn't feel right.

I have the opposite feeling: I feel a bit lonely in a big rooms of Anaconda, Type's and others. May be I would love to walk around them one day with the spacelegs. Well... Suum cuique.

If you want to be prepared for all eventualities and still have a decent jump range, then Annie is then the only option. Any ship can be an explorer ship, even a Sidewinder. :)

Don't worry, there's definitely no chance whatsoever that you'll become so obsessed with exploring that you'll spend an absurd, unconscionable, embarrassing amount of time scanning system after system, chasing down rogue planets, moving farther and farther away from the Bubble, promising yourself this next system is the last before you head back, immediately breaking that promise and going even farther, then one day suddenly snapping out of it, wondering what the hell you've been doing, wanting to turn your scans in RIGHT NOW but realizing it's going to take you at least days to get back, maybe more, maybe a LOT more, then becoming paranoid about having enough fuel to get through that next series of unscoopable stars, enough materials, gathering materials, multi-star systems, neutron star jets, interdictions, even in the middle of nowhere, ESPECIALLY in the middle of nowhere, potentially losing your scans, gritting your teeth, sweating, hands shaking as you finally get back to a station and creep way too slowly into the dock, trespassing alerts flashing in your eyes, visions of spontaneous disconnects dancing in your head, touching down a little too hard because it's been so long, breathing an epic, exaggerated, almost animalistic sigh of relief when you finally sell your scans, then jumping out of your seat, pacing the room spewing a cacophony of the most vile profanity imaginable, swearing up and down that you'll NEVER do anything like that again, never, EVER!!! Then a few minutes later, heading right back out and doing it all again.

At least, it's never happened to me.

<cough>

I used the very handy Loop Route Finder to grind out my Corvette.
It took about 4-5 evenings from Chief Petty Officer to Rear Admiral.

Settings:
Min Supply/Demand 7000
Max price 30 days
Min Profit 8000
Allegiance Federation
Distance 700
Ship jump range (depends on your ship)
Landing pad (depends on your ship)
No Permit systems No
Everything else Any/None
If you register it remembers your settings.

With a 24 LY, 448T Anaconda, I was turning close to 4 million each turn.
Corvette YAY!

Now I use it for topping off my always dwindling insurance policies.

Come to think of it, I kind of feel sorry for my Anaconda now.

Maybe I'll take her exploring!

Dolphin is a nice option for exploration, it’s got a spacious cockpit to stretch your legs in. Plus I believe that it’s class 5 module is now free to add a bigger fuel scoop or size 5 guardian FSD booster.
It runs cool, handles well and has a surprisingly strong shield for any bumps.

Potential of 60ly jumps.

Agreed. Excellent little ship. I did the entire Guardian grind in my Dolphin w/4 SRVs.

You know you can tune that buggy to over 70ly?

Same here I don't like the really big ships for exploration, it feels like you are taking the QE2 to find the lost island of Munga, I fly a phantom with 65ly range, that's comfortable and you aren't doing crazy things like stripping it of shields and etc.

I'm afraid the engineering grind needed for that would kill me and yes, I also don't want to get a maximum jump range at any cost. Now I'm going to get Gardian booster.

OP, a nice trip would be bubble-Sag A*-Beagle Point-Colonia-bubble.....that'll test your mettle as an Explorer.

btw, I've been to BP 3x, Sag A* around 4x, Jaques Station probably more than 20x.....hope your trip's a good'n:)

I use my 'Conda for exploring all the time, since I bought it from the proceeds of DW1.

I've only geared it up 55LY jump range, that'll get me to most places I wanna go.

Plus points....plenty of module space to choose what goes on your trip.

Minus points.....turns like a canal barge, but you get used to it & only notice it when you change to a more 'agile' vessel on return from trips.

Got the bug myself. After a trip to CoalSack I cashed in and immediately headed straight out to Pelican. I fly in economy planning and scan everybloodything Arrived there last night taking photos. Plan for this weekend is to dive through Pelican and North American all the way down as far as I can get in my 20ly Challenger, then instead of heading back to the bubble I intend to head from North American to Colonia keeping as low as possible and making the shortest hops possible. See you all in 2021. I would imagine few others will have gone that route so I'm hoping for a first discovery or two.

From there it'll be Sag A. The grind to Elite combat and trade have been completely forgotten. I get nothing from those whereas I get a shedload of lovely photos for my laptop screensaver from exploration.

See you in the black.
