I think I'm done

Its a lot of grind and grief with very little joy. I enjoyed the grind for awhile but...ehh...maybe if they had actually designed it better as a multiplayer game...or hadn't made it so mind numbingly retro that it didn't have features and conveniences that we would expect now in a luxury car or flying into a local airport. I suppose it is "hard core" but the Elite I played back in the 80's was as well. It was just more fun for the time.

Don't "true believer" me on this. If that's your instinct then just go play and enjoy it. I envy you.

I can sympathise with this, to be honest. If it wasn't for the significant amount that I have invested in getting back into PC gaming specifically for this game, plus a DK2, plus an additional 970, plus an X55, plus water-cooling and so on and so on, I would be spending my limited leisure time elsewhere.

That said, when I do get time to play, I usually have an 'Oh Wow!' moment at least once a session and then it all seems worthwhile, however that is driven mainly by the 3D experience of the rift. If I was playing solely in 2D, I think I'd have thrown the towel in by now.

I agree, I've had a lot of trouble with the dk2 aswell and found getting it working right to be a grind so now I'm looking forward to cv1. Oh wait are you not talking about the dk2??

My recollection of the 80's is that everything was more fun/better than now apart from video games.
You make a couple of fair points though Dolli,
I have never played a game in which the 'flying' felt so good,

Nah, I'm no true believer. I just enjoy the game, for quite a long time now. It's def my cup of tea. Doesn't have to be everyone else's.

Even exploring man. You can't really figure out a more boring part by normal definition. Even when trading, you get dicted once in a while. Exploring? Occasional dual star system - once in a week, maybe. Still. I got addicted to it for some reason. If there wasn't a deadline back then for the Lembava CG, I would have kept going... in a combat Python, with limpets still in hold, hatch breaker and everything....

Lately I've been mining. It's not quite as addictive, but ... relaxing.

One problem is that to really get into playing with other players you have to search reddit or the forums here and then every group has another webpage or teamspeak you have to join to really get the best multiplayer experience. For a lot of new players thats confusing and too much work to be fun. The developers really need to work on adding more in game ways for people to easily find and join other groups, and for the leaders of those groups more tools to manage everything in game. If they do that i think it will be a much better multiplayer experience for everyone.
