I Think I'm Just Too Friendly Of A Dog...

A low-intensity combat zone forms in my home system on a fairly regular basis. I outfitted a combat ship, and moseyed on over. I also selected Open, just to try it out. No commanders were to be seen in my fringe system of depressed Russians. Everyone there was an NPC.

Every contact was green. I was allied, or friendly, with everyone in the fight. No one took a shot at me in ten minutes.

I left, shaking my head. Then, as I was leaving i super-cruise, I was interdicted, by one of my local factions (an NPC). He shot first, and got the wanted status. I won the fight, and scanned for all the bounties. They were not much (less than 20 KCr).

When I got back, sure enough, I lost rep with the faction that had attacked me.

Went to the next anarchy system over. Dropped into the Nav Beacon.

Flew around for half an hour with no one taking a shot at me. If I had even gone after the ones with bounties, I would have locked myself out of of possibly three ports.

This is all very, very strange. When I'm exploring, or trading, NPC's routinely interdict/attack me. I go looking for a fight, and they ignore me.

I think I will have to find a little independent system far, far away, if I want to do combat without losing rep, in places that matter to me for trade. It's too much effort.

I'm just stuck with being the nice, scruffy dog of the neighborhood. :(

that's because on SOLO NPC's are more likely to harass you, on open it's supposed for them to be less active to compensate

that is my experience anyways

You have to pick a side in your right hand 'Options' panel. First menu item.

and maybe that, too

Like I'm not aware of this. The whole point is that his particular contest is a no-win for me, since I will anger at least one of the factions badly enough that they will send death squadrons after me...

Going into conflict zones and choosing a side strangely does not affect your reputation with them whatsoever. Even after turning in the combat bonds, it does not help or hurt your reputation with any faction and just only gives you cash. Maybe it affects that faction's influence in the system but there is no impact on affiliation. I don't know if that is intended, but I've killed thousands of federation and imperial ships in CZ's all over the galaxy and I'm still allied with them all.

Attacking ships outside of CZ's always affects your reputation so always check to see if the target's faction is aligned with someone you want to be in good standing with.
