I think there should be a small credit bonus for playing in open play

the £13k cash prizes that can only be earned in open isn't incentive enough for you?

While I completely disagree with the OP the idea that this would persuade anybody new is laughable! I would place a sizeable wager all 4 winners will be beta players, as is the concept that anybody with even remotely normal playtime can compete.

I should point out this isn't to be disparaging about the contest, infact I thought it was a nice idea to get some of the long time beta backers to wipe on release, just you have to be realistic here.

In my own humble opinion (and feel free to disagree here and yell at me a lot) one of the biggest incentives to online open was removed from the game when the supercruise dropout distance was reduced to a distance that drops you at the front door.

When the dropout distance was longer and you had to make a run for the station in normal space, it opened up a bubble of player generated activity around the busy stations.

My best moments of the entire beta period happened in those station 'bubbles', there was even a blockade at a station, players where even in orbit in supercruise like some kind of space scouts.

In theory this sounds like a gankers paradise, and I thought so too and said as much, but when it actually delivered some of the most unique and mindblowing gaming moments I've ever actually had, I suddenly realised that Frontier were in fact genuises and this was the reason they'd pushed the online stuff so much.

Then in a moment of complete madness they reduced the dropout distance and removed forever the possibility of this kind of thing happening.

Rather than a monetary type incentive, this was an incentive that promised gaming moments that just could never happen in solo, and if solo players were to read some of those types of experiences they'd have been sold and been in open from then on.

I still wouldnt play open with 10% credit increase . It wouldnt improve my game one bit . I play in a group with mates I dont need open play . But hey others might . The only reason to play open would be content. Im not talking about players blowing you up for fun as content either.

I'd wager that all 4 winners will be Eve Online players and not only that, none of them will have ever played Elite.

If I'm wrong about that I'll donate £50 to any charity you want.

Lets say %10 to encourage people to take that little bit of extra risk. I honestly think it would make the game better
The only way to encourage players to use OPEN mode is to make OPEN more fun for good reasons. Adding incentives or penalties will never help. Some people don't want the risk of being killed by a CMDR...period.

Because that is essentially ganking and it's not that type of a game. It's more casual. Considering the servers weren't wiped means you'll have lost of gankers with powerful ships purposely ganking all the new players.

I said as much at the time and then Michael Brookes came on the forum and said that the galaxy was big enough for all kinds of play, and then David Braben went on promo interviews and used it as a selling point. And then I saw it produce some nuggets of emergent play that is pretty unique these days..... and then they went and took it out.

Well thats me out then, not that I was in anyway. This is a prize for the unemployed. Unless its time accumulated.

This is a prize for those chinese gold farming operations that are going to have accounts being manned 24/7 in shifts, lets not kid ourselves.

Why is it important for you to have more people online? You can still chat with friends while you all play Solo Mode.

Solo should have a boost in NPC interdictions to make up for the lack of human ones if it doesnt already. Ive started playing solo and switched to MP after the first few hours and its basically identical anyway except sometimes you see a hollow target on your scanner.

Not a problem with extra credits, wouldn't change my playstyle and to be honest someone earning more than me doesn't really bother me.
In the end a good pilot in a Viper can still take an Anaconda and the Viper costs a fair bit less too.

Incentives would not work on me - I bought the game mainly for solo play and I enjoy the world as much as I enjoy the world of Skyrim. There are no people around to ruin my fun because though it may seem odd, I am not interested in killing things, I am interested only in exploring and trading and making money.

Players would not only distract me from creating my own world and making money but they would probably ruin it too as is often the case in large open worlds where players are free to be annoying to other players who do want to play the game as they do.

The only person having fun during an interdiction is the interdictor – the risk of a loss of profit is never fun.

Play solo and rise to be a god, play open and be simply one of many...

Currently the only incentive is because pvp'ers want to hate on you, call you names, be disparaging, insult you, complain, whine, act selfishly and basically behave very poorly indeed.

Not much of an incentive, but its all they have come up with so far. Good luck with that guys. Guess you're aiming for that first time for the history of humanity where people use 'hate' to attract friends.
