I think this is possibly my favourite game of recent years.

I didn't play Elite. I didn't play Frontier or Encounters. December 16th was the first time I ever played an Elite game. I've played every day since. I know there are some bugs, I've been bitten by some of them. I understand that this is a project that maybe was released a bit too early and maybe shouldn't have been. Doesn't really matter. Some of the mechanics inherent within the game stop me from flying in the X-Wing style that I'm accustomed to. Doesn't really matter, I relearned.

I've crashed ships because I didn't know what I was doing. I've had to start from a Sidewinder again because I flew into a space station shortly after thinking I'd nailed the controls. I can't count how many times I've been dumped out of SC because I got too close to a star scooping fuel. Doesn't matter, I learned how to do things better each time afterwards. I've been shot all to hell by NPCs because I suck at combat and my guns ran too hot or stopped working. Doesn't matter, I learned a lesson or two.

Just posting as one of those largely silent majority you hear about. We're still here, plugging away quietly. That's all really, I expect this'll drop off the front page pretty quickly with all the blooblooing going on.

+ 1 for being positive and for adding your voice to those who enjoy the game - and for understanding that we are on a journey of discovery

top man - im with you although i did play in 84 (18 months of my life i'll never get back) and have been on since prem-beta.
overall its a cool environment to fly around in, meeting interesting people, selling them things and then killing them (virtually of course).
you have the right approach, learn from mistakes, adapt and it becomes easier.

I've probably played Elite more than any other game in the last five years except maybe Kerbal Space Program. I'm a fan of sandbox games.

Totally agree with your Howe.. I enjoy every minute of this game and go in with all the same understandings as you pointed out above.. This is not Eve Valkyrie, its not trying to be Star Citizen... and I don't want it to be. Ill play those if that's what im looking for. For now, Im happy with the game, and look forward to the potential of what it will be as FD continues work on it!

Im one of the few space truckers who actually enjoys trading and probably have 150/200+ hours in my chair moving cargo from one end of the galaxy to the other. In fact I went into Bacon Hub and they greeted me by name! ;)

Mine too. Getting a little bored of the FPS I normally play. Now that is a boring type of game in a lot of ways - you only have one path thru it, and you have no say in what to do next.

Nice to have to use your imagination for a while, set some goals, etc.

Agreed, it has its issues but I love this game.

Edit - I'm so glad there is no in-game counter telling me how many hours i have played. It would probably be a shockingly high figure

I'm having a good time in the game too. Have been playing for three weeks now. Made all of the noob mistakes one could in my first week. Then got the hang of things. I've tried a little of everything since. Trading, mining, mission, exploring and such. I've never wanted for something to do. I've been able to do what I wanted. I have no problem with the way the game is now. I know that it is a work in progress and more will be added later. I'm looking forward to seeing new content. But I'm not in a hurry to see it. FD can take their time developing the game. Those of us who like it are going to be around for a good while.

In the space sim genre ED is my favorite game. I've barely played anything else sinse beta 3.6. At the same time i'm part of the so called whining minority because this is the most shallow and simplistic space sim i've ever played in my life and it can be much much more.

There are only two times I'm not happy with the game.

When I at work and can only read the forum, and

When I'm asleep (need some occasionally) but I'm sure I dream about face planting a star or getting jammed in the slot by a T9.

Loving it...

I'll gladly add my voice to this positive thread, god knows it's easy enough to get sucked into the negative side of this forum.

Definitely in my top 5 games of all time (the others being Portal(s), Half Life(s), Warcraft and, err, dunno - maybe Quake).

Utterly obsessed with both the game and, for the first time ever, the meta-game (i.e. this forum, the YouTube channels, Lave Radio podcast, etc).

Nice job FD! (and if you see me moaning elsewhere it's because I care).
