I unpinned ED from my favorites tab today.

I get it now. I understand why people park outside beginner system stations and grief noobs. There's simply nothing left to do. Once you've done everything this game currently has to offer (which you can do rather quickly) you're left with few truly enjoyable options. Even PvP which would normally have the longest lasting appeal due to individual CMDR skill levels and build choices is repetitive and wholly dependent on the meta. There just isn't an interesting re-playable core game mechanic so out of boredom they turn to trolling noobs. Heck, I myself turned to trolling PvP'ers by baiting them into attacking me and then legally logging out on them. Why not? It's a product of boredom not malice. What's the alternative? Do what I've already done thousands of times in this game already all over again? When I bought ED I was under the impression that I was buying into a gloriously deep and complex universe with an amazing 10 year plan to bring it to ever greater heights. And somehow I'm on the verge of uninstalling simply because me being a troll in a game out of boredom isn't worth paying money for.

I love this game! More fun everyday. Working together with good people for common goals. Flying spaceships. Combat, trading, mining, exploring. Flying spaceships. Awesome game!

Pretty much this.
1. get biggest ship in game ( 18-30h. mostly because you need cobra to start doing robigo ubergrind and asp to do it fastest way. )
2. Do everything else in game ( 2-3h, up to 30h if you want to visit sag A* ).
3. Get bored and start killing other commanders.
I've got about 1000h because i explored alot and never used exploits... But 99% of people would use them.
Only thing thats keeping me playing is ua mystery.

Still got a ton of things on the to do list. Heres the ones that should take me to this time next year assuming updates keep me busy some of the time too.

-Exploration trip (ongoing).
-Try Piracy again.
-Try Mining again.
-Reach triple (quadruple) Elite.
-Take part in more player group events (sidewinder sports day, racing, fuel-rats).
-Do some more PvP again in tournaments/leagues.
-Join a few more community goals.
-Kill capital ships.

May even take longer than a year to do all those... Ah well, each to their own. I've been playing Xcom2 and Fallout4 recently too so my Elite-time has dropped a tad.

Instead of griefing people and turning Open into a barren wasteland from everyone migrating to Solo, just step away from the game for a few weeks or months or years (there are lots of other great games to play too!) and when you come back, there will be new content and new game mechanics, and you'll enjoy being back in the pilot's seat!

Elite is a ten-year project. Don't play like it's a chore that needs doing constantly. It's not going anywhere. It'll be more fun to take a break and drop by for leisure :)

...

Wait...

You're showing an awful lot of self-awareness for a griefer... I suspect I'm an april fool! :D

I've had this feeling before. "Done and gun". But killing newbies isn't the solution.

More importantly, I seriously doubt you know everything there is to know. I have been playing for over 1500 hours and I'm still learning new deep trivia and secrets.

So all I can say is, dig deeper.

Probably sound advice, I think I'll do just that. +rep

Yep... Sometimes I login , sit in the ship , think mmmm , and logout :)

That was me a few minutes before starting this post.

Create an exploration montage.

Been playing since Gamma and still finding lots to do.

Today I tagged first discovery on a blackhole surrounded by an awesome blue planetary nebula.

For me a key to fighting off the boredom has been... frequent wipes of my game save. I did manage to hang onto my game save for a nine month stretch in there while I was working with a player faction but since then I've gone back to playing "Iron Man" mode with the express goal of reaching "Elite" in exploration without ever pulling the trigger on my lasers while playing in open.

Honestly... there is a lot more content in this game geared toward players on the beginning stages of the game then there is for veteran players. Wipe you game save and go back to flying the Sidewinder... its much more fun when every encounter with another player or NPC actually is "Dangerous".

I have 2 accounts - playing the 2nd account exploring and mining on the edge of the bubble. No great plan except Combat ranking is unlikely to get much past mostly harmless. Playing iron man and avoid killing. even NPCs. It makes smuggling slightly more difficult - but not by much. 1st account will be reset and revisited when 2.1 comes out. The end game (post Anaconda and half a billion in bank) is too player group focussed for my particular tastes - so looking forward to the new mission system.

Must say I'm loving the Type-6 again. Tempted by a Leelback at some point.

This is actually a good point (though personally I did it only once, wiped my beta for release). Best thing with this statement is that it's so demonstratively anti to the widespread illusion of 'getting to somewhere', usually associated with the most expensive ships. The competitive crowd must have a really hard time to digest this game... LOL
