I used to play Elite Dangerous ... until I took an arrow to the knee

Ok .. Not Elite related, but I picked up Skyrim on the PSVR yesterday and ...

O-M-G .. this is absolutely amazing.. A PSVR must-own and I hope it gets ported to PC in 2018 - if it does, I might just even buy the game for the *fourth* time (three times at the moment)

hiking up to bleak falls barrow, looking down at Riverwood below me as a snow storm blows in, then going into the barrow with everything rendering at scale .. it's mind-blowing!

that and watching characters interact with each other in full immersive 3d .. it's like you're really there in the room with them.

if you own a PSVR .. then you really do need to pick this up ..

..but make sure you finish up you Community Goals first :)

That description is exactly what I want to hear about playing any game in VR. Hopefully in 2018, comes a Skyrim VR PC version to enjoy with 8K.

Good or bad reviews I'll be getting Fallout VR. Maybe SkyrimVR too. Skyrim is just a timed PSVR exclusive right now. Who knows when it will be over. Maybe after the first of the year to help move some PSVRs for Christmas.

As soon as it is available for the Rift, i will buy it for sure. I don´t know, if i will put another 800 hours into it, like i did with PS4 version, but i definitely want to try it in VR.

There is a motion system in it, no teleportation, right? And can i play it in VR in 3rd person mode?

I dont think there is a third person mode, but to be honest, I think that would break immersion somewhat.

You can play with Dual-Shock or move controllers (I'm using the DS at the moment) and you can also have full movement, just like you can with Farpoint. It has this vignette thing that happens when you move forward, but you can turn it off - I actually did not turn it off, but dialed it down a little and have set the turning to snap turn with smooth movement.

In other words, you have complete control of how you want to play in first-person, but there are plenty of options to help combat motion sickness if you need them.

I so want this game for my Rift and touch controllers, but I fear what it will mean for my progress in ED.

Sadly, Google has no information on a PC Release date.

Meh, pass. Ars Technica's review of Skyrim VR was a bit miss more than hit;

Played the original in 2D... personnally Skyrim and Fallout should stay 2D imo. I have to say I wasn't going to be a insta-buyer for the VR version... why spend another 100 hours doing the same content?
Sure it'd be longer, but how can it compare to Lone Echo, or ED?

Seriously.
If they had spent half the effort they seem to be pulling on porting Skyrim to everything they could have made elder scrolls VI by now.

As for old game in new medium.
I highly recommend doom 3 BFG edition and the reskin vr mod.
Fully vive enabled and kind of broken during cutscenes but utterly a brilliant way to play doom.

And those cyber pinkies almost the size of a Robin reliant and twice as quick.

If that doesn't give you a jump you probably don't have a pulse.

The next version fixes the cutscenes. I tested the beta and it gives you the choice of windowed cutscenes (cutscenes display on a virtual screen) or as the mod had them previously but with all the bugs fixed (no more puppet legs etc).

Skyrim is an epic game in VR, I've played 100's upon 100's of hours since my DK1 first arrived and before that, 100's more using a Sony HMZ-T1 with cobbled together headtracking. When Skyrim VR comes to PC I'll 100% be picking the title up again. I have no issue buying the game again, it's already provided me with 1000's of hours play time (yet i've never completed it) and even more creating mods for it.

I'm lucky as I haven't played any Fallout 4 so when that comes out in VR it should be a real treat and 100% fresh. Honestly, from my experiences these games translate really well into VR and motion control support will be the icing on the cake.

When an article contains multiple updates *after* it's published, it's credibility somewhat diminishes.

I agree with the menu's clipping on occasion and the ui could do with a little tweaking, but these are minor things.

The move support is apparently flakey, and that might be more to do with the general crapness of the move controllers (it's essentially leveraging older tech to keep the costs down. I wish Sony would bring out proper motion controls)

I'm playing the game with my DS4 and I'm enjoying it immensely, if only for the immersion and being able to have free-roam around a massive open-world in VR.

Just looking up at the sky in itself is absolutely amazing - and last night I went out to the balcony at the back of whiterun and it felt like I was in the Sierra Nevada's

Stunning.

Its great to see folks fired up about new VR games!

But I gotta tell ya... God intended video games to be played from a comfy chair. If I gotta stand up and dance around that's just too much work. ...and teleporting from position to position really breaks the VR immersion for me.

I've seen some cool stuff in a couple of VR FPS games, but they were just not very "playable" beyond the eye candy.

Remember the Nintendo Wii? It had its very brief time in the sun when it was a novelty but didn't really have any longterm lifespan. People just wanted to sit back down and enjoy their party drinks...

I preordered Fallout 4 VR as soon as it came up, i have 230ish hours in 2d but hadnt gotten very far in the story and stopped playing as soon as i heard a VR version was coming.

Played Skyrim for maybe two hours, it didnt catch me and that is likely because im more of a scifi guy.

I have been enjoying Skyrim and expansions on the pc for a while now. Since Vorpx added it to their 'direct vr" list, it has been quite playable even modded and I can use my Touch controllers. It also helps to use some of the Nexus mods like the 2k texture mod. That said it is a beast to run even with a 1080ti but one of my favorite VR experiences, especially once you get the graphics all gussied up.

I agree. That's why I like that From Other Suns has a seated option along with all the locomotion options. I mention it because it's the only game I've seen that does this.

But I think Fallout 4 and Skyrim should be fine seated. If not, there will be mods.

Same here, picked up Fallout 4 VR and stopped playing the 2d version. Not long until it's released. Can't wait to see the wasteland in all its glory. Skyrim will also be added to my games library as soon as a VR version is available.

I'll be preordering Skyrim for the Rift as soon as it's listed.

I think you can play seated if you want. at least I saw a psvr review where the insert screen showed the reviewer seated and using a game pad type controller. me? oh I'll be standing and hacking and slashing. but when I do some alchemy, I'll probably sit for that.

Just like RL.

All 'standing' room scale games can in my experience be played seated, just arm rests tend to get in the way a bit.

Who says you have to teleport in Skyrim VR? Even with the crappy move controllers you can free move (with step turning) Also you can play sat down using the moves (works a treat on a horse(in VR obviously have not tried playing Skyrim on the back of a real horse!))

I'm sure someone with a switch and a horse could try :p

Although not in VR..
