PvP I wanna make a diet evil build

Okay, so, I've not been into PvP outside of CQC, and certainly not into ganking/griefing, but the itch for naughtiness is needing a scratching. But the thing is, I don't wanna outright go ganking new players in some overpowered murderboat. Because that's mean. I wanna be mischievous, not mean. Seriously, last time I sat there scanning ships in eravate the vast majority of them didn't even have chaff fitted. One guy I winged with didn't know what chaff was. Killing people like that isn't sporting.

So I wanna be mean but not tooooooooo mean. Give 'em a little scare then be like "ooohhhhhh nooooooooo you got away, I am bested, curse my hubris" as they successfully "escape" my grasp, that sort of thing.
One thing I considered was going through the powerplay wait for cytoscramblers for quick-and-scary shield stripping, possibly with scramble spectrum to give 'em some crazy malfunctions but not actually pose any real threat to them.
Would enzyme missiles be too mean? Corrosion will scare 'em for sure but I don't want it to actually kill them.

Oh, and whatever I bring is gonna have to survive the inevitable authority ships for long enough to flee into the night screaming "I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME, COMMANDER! NEXT TIIIIIIIMMMMEEEEEeeeeee"

I mean, reverse piracy is always fun, but I wonder whether sending a random newbie a ton of void opals will actually ruin the game for them. 1.6M is a lot to a new player. It certainly was to me when I first started out, making my first million was a memorable thing.

You want sporting? Go after commanders of the same rank or higher than yourself. If you're a Competent in combat, go after those CMDR's who are Competent and higher. Going after a Harmless CMDR when you're a Novice is indeed very unsportsmanlike.

Would using an unengineered sidewinder solve the problem? It would be hard for anyone to call it not a fair fight then.

That's absurd, combat rank just says how many NPCs you've killed. My buddy is still competent ranked in combat but is one of the best PvP pilots in the game. He just never bothered with NPCs (I don't blame him, it's boring).
Also, I'm master ranked because I gave up on killing NPCs a long time ago and yet I fly circles around most Elite ranked pilots.

Combat rank means nothing and is a stupid way to base your engagement with another player off of.

The only thing I would agree with would be to avoid pilots that are ranked mostly harmless. Any rank after that and they're fair game in my opinion.

Wait, I have a better idea. Use an Orca (great jump range, amazing speed to get away if need be) and load it up with a super pen rail and a Grom bomb (or fsd disrupt dumbfire) and just cancel their fsd every time they try to jump away. Then maybe snipe their thrusters out with your rail. I love the idea of using a scramble spectrum laser just to make em panic.

Scramble Spectrum is one of my favourite mods in concept, and it's a shame NPCs barely react to it. Sadly, anyone who I might particularly want to attack will probably just not care about it, while really new players are probably going to be terrified enough just from the sight of someone in a Large ship. Its psychological effects are negligible because of that imo
Scramble is one of my favs as well. Most of my ships have a small laser turret with it. The best benefit vs NPCs is that if I subtarget their drive there's a chance it will prevent them from waking out when things get hopeless for them and before I can destroy the drives completely.

Part of the point of this is also giving new players a taste of the whole "pssst, open is a dangerous place where a commander might just decide to wreck you for literally no reason, and they don't fly the same as NPCs" without actually sending them to the rebuy screen. Newbies aren't some vulnerable helpless animals that will be psychologically tramuatised forever by any and all adversarial interactions though I can't say the same about some of the people on this forum

I haven't been to the starter systems for long time. Now I got curious and went there again, made a vanilla sidey and took some missions, just to see how that noob feeling is nowadays.

Now I have a project. I'll try my luck as sidewinder gangster and try to get a good bounty on my head by doing crimes against the NPC's. Then I am curious if any of those starting players there manages to take my bounty. Well that's a price and educational and some real content.
