I want an MB5 mining machine

Hell yeah, I've missed the mining machines. Much more fun than shooting lasers at rocks and playing rock & scoop basketball. :)

Even more fun than watching lines of ducky-drones randomly explode when an arbitrary time limit expires, leaving the rocks to ricochet frustratingly yet amusingly off your shields.

Not played since the drones came in so I'll have to take your word on that one. :)

"arbitrary" time limit?? .. you mean, as in, operation time defined by controller class? :D

Mining ROCKS!

What lives at the bottom of a Miner's garden? ... (Agate)

How does it sound when a piano falls down the pit shaft? ... (A Flat Miner)

_ Thank you, I'm here all week

Think I've been SHAFTED by this comedy show. :p

No, the class 3 and class 5 controllers seem to give the same duration. At least, when I had one of each and launched all 5 drones at once, they all exploded in the order I launched them and with the same timing between pops. I think the time limit is 12 minutes (saw that in a thread about mining, didn't time it), possibly for all of them but definitely for those two classes of collector drones.

To be honest I haven't done this research properly! (I definitely defer) ..

The drones make the mining itself bearable .. but I am really enjoying "the career" ..

Myself I mix with exploring, outside bubble, Asp .. Detailed surface scanning, seeking metallic rings (don't generally bother too much with belts) .. Chilling out with collecting, I have an autohotkey script which holds down the mouse button for primary fire laser (which eases cramp!) another key switches off. Have a regular outpost where I'm friendly enough to get missions, which I only take if I already have the metal "in stock" (I think minerals better on short range trips, or with more than my 32T hold)

I pushed it a bit too hard with unidentified signal sources, so these days the wing of NPC's waiting if I go back to a belt twice, or the interdictions on the way back are quite challenging (KWS must be fitted, lawless space). +1 to the MB4 but the slow turn of the planet, day turning to twilight, is super cool in orbit and I'm finding a nice balance of (ED) "work", "commute", "getting a good deal" on sales, and "just floating here a while"

+1 also on the pun there Cmdr Sandmann (Though I still think miner better ;D)

Class of controller dictate number of drones that can be active at any one time, grade increases time active up to 12 minutes at Grade A

Mate, yours are PURE GOLD and you leave me feeling like I really need to get the LEAD out of MINE, before you SCOOP away all the prizes and leaving me feel like an inferior DRONE. :)

That fits. I was using A3 and A5, 2 for the A3 and 3 for the A5 so 5 drones total, and as they were all A they'd have had the same time active.

These modules ar differentated on target retrieve distance then maybe?

Stuck? In a dark dark place?
For 70 days without washing, wishing you had friends with you?
Welcome to World Of Warcraft! (arf)

You two are shocking with those puns. :p

I remember a mining engineering T-shirt from university - an outline of Australia looking like a big open pit mine with the slogan
"You think Australia's a hole now, wait 'til we're done with it!"

ED has the best mining implementation I've yet seen in a game. Yes, the drones need work, but the basic principles are solid.
Its a tough game balancing the skill required, scaling the entry so early-game players can participate and end-game players can get use out of the mechanic too.

I'm actually doing better in my Anaconda than I was in the Python. Maneuverability is good (yaw is better than the Python at 0 speed), lots of space, 10 collectors and 2 prospectors, mines very fast indeed.

@dc83 - yes, the module descriptions in Outfitting specify the time to life for the collectors. I'm using 3 5A's (3 limpets each, 12:00 timer) and a 1A (10 limpets total).
