I want submarine capabilities

okay one thing occured to me the other day. in about fivehundered years we will be able landing on all those many, many planets in the milkyway. frontier announced vehicles for exploration on the planets surfaces if i remember rightly. but what about oceans? could be another bonus for ingame adventures even though it'll be not a outstanding feature for a space sim. but after all space includes oceans too in my honest opinion. So i want submarine apabilities for one shiptype (maybe one in a hangarbay of my anaconda) or at least the possibility to get a vehicle for submarine exploration :D

pleeeez Frontier read this!!

regards

Buy an Orca

Boil off the water...problem solved ;)

burn the land and boil the seas .... something something

Firstly I'd like to see CG for actual seen progress of Terraforming as Mars now should be.

Is there any lore information on how long it took to terraform Mars?

My guess is that it would be at least 2-3 human generations, if not, longer.

Though, seeing several planets in different stages of terraforming would be pretty neat.

Afaik in original elite lore the moray starboat was the only ship capable of being a submersible.

It could be a fab feature to make the orca relavent in ed however

"Dear Lord! That's over 150 atmospheres of pressure!

"How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?"

"Well, it's a space ship, so I'd say anywhere between zero and one."

Stretching your logic, how about flying in planet's atmospheres to do planet landings? Is this going to be possible then with the current ships?

Are there space seas or oceans to explore? If so, I want a class 4 harpoon on a FDL so I can go space whale hunting to collect ambergris.

it's not far fetched, i'm pretty sure we can dive our space ships underwater, however i'm pretty sure there will be a little pressure minigame depending on the planet.

Yes: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Timeline - the pre-3250 dates are pretty much as I remember from the game books.
There was a first attempt to terraform Mars starting in 2170, abandoned in 2200. A second attempt started in 2270 and was completed in 2290. For comparison, this is after the founding of the Federation and not long before the founding of the Empire.

That sounds neat... which ocean should I put my very hot ship into: a water ocean which will create a lot of steam.... la methane ocean with a big BANG... a carbondioxide ocean that will interfere with the breathability of the pilot... a liquid oxygen ocean which would probably bounce the ship back into the atmosphere? the list goes on and on. feel free to add.

Every single ship in Elite Dangerous will be able to go under water....
I guarantee it. Going under will be no problem at all.

I can't remember what film it was - but there's this bit with some panicked accountant "This rusty old death-trap is going to sink!"

Old beardy guy - "It'd be a crap submarine if it didn't!"

I genuinely giggled at that.
