I want sympathy!

I'm saving up for my Anaconda at the moment and running the 71 stop rare goods loop ('cos the trading grind is soul-destroying). I really want to get out and get some screenies in a 'conda :)

There I am about to dock and leaning my left hand on the x-55 throttle when I catch the "dump all cargo" toggle.

> 90 tons of rare goods go spilling out the ship. All of them. There's this huge arc of cargo canisters spread all over my path into the station... So I start the laborious process of scooping them all up only to find out there is a time limit before they explode. I get something like 5 or 6 tons back in before every other cargo container blows up.

I lose a few million in trade goods, just watching them all light up the sky in front of me....

Oh, and I was in the "no-fire" zone, so on top of THAT misery I get a 1500 Cr fine for EVERY cargo container that spilled out. That was not a good day.

Some of you are laughing aren't you? Go on admit it.... ;)

OUCH! :(

Lesson to be learnt: un-bind the "dump all cargo" toggle, or at least make it an obscure key combination on your keyboard, so you won't accidentally press it. ;)

Wow that really really sucks GG. I am sorry this happened to you and I hope you recover the losses soon. I imagine you'll be deleting that hotkey now... not sure why it is there in the first place? Or why it is so easy to hit by default.

I feel your pain. I have only fiddled with rares a little. But when I first got my Python(bought with my CG profits and a ship discount) Well I was in the "Rares Neighbourhood" So I filled my Python with as many rares that were available and set off home. So rather uneventful trip I am one jump from home and I get interdicted at the star...Well needless to say there was alot of heat damage going on and I'm panicking trying to find the escape vector when I suddenly see containers all around me....My hatch popped from the damage and my cargo is now drifting away with no chance of rescue.
That was the last time I bothered with Rares oh and I make sure when I'm tradiing my Cargo Hatch is Priority one now.

I do have a question as an X52 Pro user. Was Eject all Cargo in the Default Profile?

Ouch that is gonna sting a bit,, while you're unbinding that key to a multi,, you might want to move your drop shields,,if you use them,,,, and maybe boost key too

Ouch, that really sucks, sorry for your loss. I'm also saving for an Anaconda. I reckon it will cost me 200 million all in to kit her out for exploration.
Saving up via exploration provides much more fun for me than rare goods trading. I'm currently out on a trip and have documented just over 1,000 star systems this time, around 90% of which are first discoveries.
I've achieved this by flying high and avoiding the well trodden routes!
Consider it Commander.

I'm over half-way to Elite on exploration now and wanted to get there in style :) hence the grind to get a 'conda BEFORE going back out to complete the journey.

I've unbound the key now... I didn't see the default bindings for anything as I went through all the keys myself working out which one worked for me and changed them all... including boost!

Ahhh well... lesson learned I guess, and the reason I'm doing the rare route is not actually just for the trade. As I visit each station I sell the limited exploration data gathered on the way and then look for high paying missions while I'm there. This way I am boosting my local rep (and therefore power rep) at multiple stations while also improving my trading and exploration ranks. While I'm at it, most of the missions involve fighting bad guys so I get to boost my combat rating as well.

Perfect plan spoiled by one key :(

Ooooh, that's gotta hurt - especially since it seems like an activity you don't enjoy much as it is :( I know the pain of accidental button presses (though mine involved inexperience and silent running destroying my cargo hatch), it is a painful way of losing creds...

Sympathy given. We have all done similar. In beta it was the silent running that got me at first. Could never understand why my temp was going through the roof. Then I read on the forums of someone else having similar problem and I changed the binding. Of course it took me till I lost a load of cargo to do the same about the dump cargo. I think we always believe it won't happen to us then it does :)

I feel your pain, but I wonder what on earth made you bind "dump all cargo" to a button on your HOTAS?
In what scenario did you think you would ever use that button?

EDIT: I read your previous response.

While you're at it, unbind the silent running key so you can't accidentally hit that too. That would have really made it a bad day.
