I want to go to Sagittarius A. Need help

I want to go to Sagittarius A so i was browsing google for infos. I find some but it's so scattered out that i don't want to flip through pages and pages of tipps so i decided to create a new thread.

So my question is: what ship should i take? Asp explorer? DBX? Or a other one?

What should i take with me? Will i need weapons? I've heard that people encountered pirates in the far reaches of space. I will need the Field repair thingy i guess. Have no idea however how to use it. How fast does my ship deteriorate?

How long will it take? I play casually so i can't be on it every day for 10 hours.

How do i plot the route? I know about KGB FOAM.  My assets are 13 million so i'm pretty limited with fancy equipment. I'd like to get myself an advanced discovery scanner for some additional credits. Thats 1.5 million down the pipe already. A good fuel scoop is important. 1+million gone again. FSD is expensive so the more i think about the expenses the more i see my pocketbook shrink down to a singularity, voiding my trip to SagA as i would have a black hole in my wallet...:-D

Any suggestions for a newbie to exploration? Thanks in advance.

Don't, yet. Go to the California, Heart & Soul or NGC 6357 nebulae to see if you have a taste for it. I can only play for an hour a day or something and it takes me 5/6 weeks to get there.

Here's a type 6 explorer build which is at the limit of your budget. It's the best ship for the price though.
Here's a Hauler the Explorer build which comes in at less then 3m. It's a great ship.

You can explore in anything, though.

Whatever your happy with old bean, what!

I would strongly suggets that you take something with a good jump range though.

Preference, Asp E done up to the nines, what!

Good luck dear fellow and have you considered naming anything after our dear Queen?

Toodly pipsky, what

I want to go. Really. I have done some exploring but nothing too fancy and i liked it. I used my hauler for it but the cockpit sucks harder than my kitchen sink. I heard the diamondback is good.

Oh and what about buzz crashes? Heard that it is a prominent problem.

I have a cobra somewhere in federation space "jerks" cough cough?!!!
Maybe i would just buy a new one because im too lazy to go get it. Did you go in a cobra?
No, I went in an Orca and a DBX. The DBX can be built for 11.6m. If you can afford it, go for it

The Orca was the least painful because its lower jump range meant I had no trouble plotting in the core. The DBX was a nightmare, although it actually made it home without exploding, unlike the Orca

I agree you might be better making a shorter trip first. Get a feel for exploring. It can be dangerous at first. I just got to Sag A yesterday and it's a LONG haul. I play casually like you. It took me over a month to get there and I still need to get back. I did scan a lot though. Took over 1 day of actual play time.

As for a ship the Asp Ex is better but I've heard the DBX is doable. Some guys swear by that ship and prefer it. Buts really just personal taste. I find you can fit more toys onto the Asp. Mine is pimped out and it made the trip fairly easy. But the Asp is also expensive to outfit. Not sure if 13 million will do it.

What you need, again, a lot of preference. I took shields, then I could at least run if I ran into a pirate. Turned them on 1000LY from Sag A as I heard some      holes like to kill unshielded unarmed travelers there (didn't end up seeing anyone the whole way there). Don't forget every mod including shields and weapons add to your weight and decrease your jump range. So think hard about what you want.

You definitely need an advanced discovery scanner and a detailed surface scanner if you want to make the most out of the trip and explore it'll help make you a few credits when you get back. And I stress, a few. People don't explore for the money.

Get yourself the biggest fuel scoop you can afford. You will spend a lot of time scooping. A cheap scoop takes longer to fill your tank, and you need to get closer to the star to scoop. This added time and risk on a long trip are significant as any little mistake can end you.

I took an A rated power plant as they handle heat the best. Again, good for scooping and if you come out of hyper space in between two stars. This is far more important on the DBX from what I've read as they don't handle heat as well.

I didn't take heat sinks and haven't needed them anyway. Took an AFMU but haven't needed it. D rate everything else if possible as D rated mods are the lightest. So they will increase your jump range.

Above all else, enjoy yourself. Take your time and don't fly tired. It's easy to make a mistake near a star and the results can erase weeks of work. Always throttle down when the frame shift count down starts. That way if you come out in a system with a neutron star you don't fly right into it and die.

Good luck, fly safe and keep us posted!

So a cobra would be better because of the shorter jump range? Sounds good.

I haven't buzz crashed since the last update!

A shorter jump range is not a good thing until the last 1000Ly of your trip. And the trip is 25,000LY each way. Once you hit the core just plot short trips. I did 2X my range - 1 or 2Ly the last 1000LY and didn't have an issue. So 33.22 was my range, just plotted 64Ly at a time and got through the grind relatively quick. It would plot the two jumps in less than a second.

just go straight there. In reality, the direction you head in is up to you, but if you'e too lazy to fetch your cobra from within the bubble, I think you will struggle to make Sag A*.

Its lonely out there - you will not meet anyone else, NPC or player until you get back, or unless you arrange to meet someone on purpose.

Best advise is to pick something which looks interesting and head towards it. Beware the Brown Dwarf fields - unscoopable stars for hundreds of light years. Beware of the Neutron fields - near-invisible stars which will kill you very quickly if you're not prepared.

I just dont want to fly around in the bubble just to get a 350000 credit ship. Buying a new one and then off i am.

How much does one make on average on a trip?

Someone yesterday got back from Sag A* and made 25m. I made 45m. GSRTrent went to Beagle Point and back - a 130,000 LY round trip - and made 30m. It all depends on how much scanning you do. If you just honk and nothing else, expect about 10m

It depends what you scan... I made 43 million, BUT I spent some time in the neutron fields since I raced out there to catch up to the Distant Worlds group. It took about 2 months for the round trip - 2 hours every day. I only scanned elw's and water worlds, with the occasional close gas giant.

Booze wont be a problem. Cats are plenty here.

Scanning is the key to get the creds so piking up a detailed surface scanner seems to be an option right?
