I want to try mining

pretty sure this is the only part of the game I haven't touched yet, except for in the tutorial.

I have a pretty good idea on how it works, but would really appreciate any kind of tips/advice from those more experienced.

is the corvette a good choice?, or is it the conda?... cash for outfitting is pretty much a none issue, sittin at jameson ready to start a new build with either... also have a python.

basically iit comes down to mining lasers, refinary, limpets... correct?

should I throw on a couple huge turreted beams?

Imho the Corvette is the best mining ship in the game with the internals, the power distributor and the weapon slots for it.

Just throw cargo bays, several collector limpets per mining laser (corvette can imho sustain 3 class2 indefinitely with the size 8 PD), a 4a refinery and an a-grade prospector on it, and you're golden.

I thought cutter was the best mining ship, especially its special edition with class 5 shield and 744 cargo space for limpets and fragments.

I'd never had the patience to mine through a 744ton hold :D And the PD is a bit more limiting, but in the end it doesn't matter much, even the Type10 is a very good miner now that it has the class 7 PD.

I prefer the Cutter to either the Corvette or the Anaconda for mining. Mostly it's the fact that the Cutter is the only one of the three with the bridge at the front of the ship.

But any of the big three are great mining ships. I expect the Type-10 will be pretty good as well.
Also, a Python used well can hold its own against any of these.

You want a 3A prospector (so that's two active prospectors at a time)
You also want at least 4 active collector limpets per medium laser, even at the expense of cargo.
4A refinery is best, but now we can ignore fragments you can get away with smaller if that can get you more active collectors.

Only mine in pristine metallic rings. Take about 2/3 of your cargo with limpets. Ignore fragments of the cheaper ores.

Vette is a good choice. More maneuveravle than a cutter, better weapon placement than a conda (unless you like your nose 6 inches from a rapid)

Python is just as good if you don't want to do huge stints

Plenty of good advice already in this thread but if you want to mine, go Space Cow for the real experience. Fantastic cockpit views and you really feel like you are in control of a deep space mining freighter.

Dreaming of reasons to go deep space mining 30 000 ly away from bubble for rare material and coming back after to bubble..

This would be great, having ultra-rare materials to mine that are only to be found 1000s of light years outside the bubble

No ya don't lol. I was done with mining after I unlocked Bill the Bar Steward Bromellite Bursar and his friend Selene (Mean) Jean the Purnicious Painite Purser.

If they release a new engineer and it wants mining resources to unlock, I'll....erm, I'll... pee and moan impotently about it in the forum? Yes, that's what I'll do. lol

Awww.....mining's ok...in small doses. Finding a nice spot to snuffle out the Painite is important.

To be honest my miner of choice is a T6. I did the Python thing, but just didn't so much for me any more than the relaxing and more slow T6 lasering. I think wing mining could be cool, but solo it's just kinda a moment of zen.

Just being funny, but yeh, mining ain't for me. I'd rather cut vital parts of my anatomy off with a rusty blade. :p

Mining has some nostalgia value for me as I did quite a lot on the original Elite back when I was a kid. I played the ZX Spectrum port of Elite, where the mining laser was the most powerful weapon in the game! The top of the range military laser was bugged and packed little more punch than the starting out pulse laser :( But the mining laser was very powerful - equally good at blasting rocks and Thargoid warships :)

LFT 65. ;)

I wish there was more depth and skill involved, but I find mining strangely relaxing and immersive, especially when done in a pretty location. Jean-Michel Jarre is my music of choice for mining :)

I don't do it all the time, but every now and then I just get the urge to dust off my mining lasers and refinery.

All I want it manual scooping to be more tolerable and I'm golden. Give me an ability to line up cutting so I know the trajectory of fragments and guide 'em right into my school on the cut, I will zen for years cutting rocks. Or maybe consolidate limpet controllers a bit so I can fit a more combat-ready ship to fight off pirates...

(also make Torval's laser worth while)

The corvette indeed is in my opinion now the best mining ship.

try this (just for internals)

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=B0z0,...cg0,,7Vs00Bk00Bk00AA05Vk05Vk05__05Sc00bg05xs0

8 limpets for quick collection (just bring enough mining lasers to keep them busy, so at leats 2 medium mining beams)
4 prospector probes to probe a lot potatoes at once, but use the other classes prospector to keep a probe whee you mine.
still a big shield for security, and 320t cago.

neither the cutter nor the conda can do that, since the cutter is too sluggish to mine in a similar efficient way.

cutter is lacking nimbleness, so when you want to mine for special material isntead of plain strip mining, then it's not a good choice as meneuvring from space potatoe to space potatoe takes too long.
