I was either dead unlucky or dead silly.

I did it about four times in when I was starting out in Beta; it didn't occur to me that Open and Solo used the same data. I was also clicking buttons randomly to find out what they did.

Given how rarely the option is required, is there any harm in making it a total pain in the backside to use? Would any of us be massively inconvenienced by some sort of two-factor authentication system on the option?

excellent idea. Rep.

Can you confirm then that a single click on the clear save button is all it takes?
If there is no confirmation dialogue then that would be very poor programming indeed.

Well, I cannot confirm it, for one; I dare not put my mouse pointer anywhere near that thing! Especially now after this post...
Actually, I got close to pushing it the other day to see what happened. omg the horror...

The player invests so much time in this game that I feel the 'clear save' option should be behind a password.
Imagine after 2 years of playing someone deliberately or inadvertently deleting your save.

I'd have thought the warning that already exists when you perform that option exonerates Frontier from user error ;)

No. Most persistent games have a check that asks you to type in the character name to confirm a delete. Anything less is much too easy to accidentally double click without reading.

It's not FD's fault. But this should be changed as soon as possible.

Good on the op for starting fresh. That takes a lot of courage!

I am tentatively considering doing a wipe once 1.3 comes out. If there is no definitive answer before then AND if I actually decide to do it I will describe the full process here for you all.

I have now done a roleback with the intention of doing some exploration from the start viability testing as a playstyle.

I can confirm there is only 1 "are you sure" and it is a simple yes/no click.

On the upside with the buffs exploration has had I am having fun, nearly 100K profit in 26 systems in just under 2 hours. As a starting roleplay it is certainly viable as a way to go with the caveat that I have done a fair bit of exploring already and that experience is most likely making my life much easier despite using the initial kit available.

I did mention I would return to the thread if my ticket was ever resolved and although I Have recovered most of what I lost that day I would not have expected to get the email I did a couple of days back. here it is to show they do eventually listen to old tickets and I thank FD.

Hi Femina,

So sorry for not getting back to this ticket sooner, we've recently made some changes to our system and found this ticket.

Hopefully I have good news, I've taken a look into your deleted account and can see your Anaconda, Imperial clipper and Viper still there.

All up it shows you as having 190 million credits in balance and assets!!

It's great to see you've recovered from this loss but I feel like we need to reimburse you for this loss.

I've attached a screenshot of your previous accounts total assets.

Please accept 190,776,474 Credits that I've transferred over from your previous account. This brings your current balance to: 264,915,800 Credits!!!

Again so sorry for not being able to get back to this sooner, I hope this is an unexpected but pleasant surprise for you.

If you have any questions or issues please let me know.

Fly safe,

Excellent! Glad they reimbursed you. :)

Although it still wouldn't hurt to require the user's password on "Delete Save" (this also prevents mischivious fingers from a third party deleting the save).

I'm glad Frontier reimbursed you.

I now only change the options once I have started the game as the "Delete Save" option doesn't appear whilst you're within the game.

Having a text field where you had to type in "confirm" would be a good catchall for this kind of thing.

I'm glad you got reimbursed, commander. See you out there.
