I was inspired to share!!! This is for dev's mostly :D

One of the things that never gets old for me is jumping from system to system in this game. The sounds the visuals are amazing, especially when the illusion of twisting and turning is involved as the ship makes its way. The local planet to planet travel for me is rather strait forward. Being that I saw some concept art for jumping from our corner of the Milky Way to the other. I thought I would share that It would be cool if the trip would be a harrowing experience for the ship and the pilot, due to the immense power it take to send a ship that far that fast. The 1994 movie Stargate had a great example of this in the scene when the doc stepped through for the first time. The ship would come out undamaged but rather scorched; some blurred vision; lots of camera shake! with some extreme sounds. Make some ship systems turn on and off; ship lights flash and spark. Being forced out of whatever theory you choose for the travel would be rather violent and relieving experience when the trip is over. Maybe even go as far as the interdiction hud while your traveling to stay aligned while your doing it!!!! ZOMG!

Please let me know what you think!

To jog your memory on the scene I'm talking about if you haven't seen its this one :D

Add more camera shake and more people will refuse to play the game. It's not nice for some of us.
.
Personally, I'm bored with the endless loading screens. I Alt-Tab and do something else as soon as I start the jump chargeup.

I believe in normal flight you would be absolutely right(camera shake is a nightmare in RSI's Star Citizen even in normal flight). The Dev's I think got it right in terms of mimicking the inertial effects of interstellar flight. If its really an issue they should add a slider for those who like the arcade approach. I believe It would take away from the immersion in the game. This is not an arcade space combat game. Its a futuristic combat/trade/exploration space simulator. Take away the camera effects take away the simulator/immersive feel the game has to offer.

The big point in there has nothing to do with something we will do in a normal trip. It has everything to do with a BIG JUMP across our Milky Way. Something that is not just 14-30 Light Years away but say 20-50k Light Year jump. I'm just saying the power a trip like that will take should make the experience rather violent not just for the pilot but for the ship too!

Hello, Gentoo87. :)

I would say it's both. Without it being a criticism, it's fair to say that every last thing in ED is touched by the giant throbbing hand of gamification. As much as I appreciate the simulationy aspects, there's no way to call ED a pure sim. At times it is much closer to an arcade shoot-'em-up.

Regarding your idea, it would be interesting if limited to the more immersive times and conditions. Such as a player's first few jumps and less frequently thereafter. It makes sense that a less experienced Commander would be rubbish at it. Also, when jumping with a damaged ship, when the machinery isn't going to be as reliable.

I wouldn't want it for every long jump, though - it would just be a severe irritant and everyone would learn to hate it. I can see it breaking up interstellar PvP chases more severely than anything now in the game. A single long run would take far too long - long-distance traders, Fuel Rats and explorers would all suffer disproportionately. Also, it would be infuriating for everyone working at Maia and similar places, where the big paying missions are all to destinations over 250 light-years away, with strict time limits.

How about some more camera flare? Would that be ok?

I don't think J.J. Abrams is working on anything at the moment, I am sure he would give Frontier a few pointers.

As described in the article I read the other sections of the Milky Way they were showing image wise looked to be about 25k Light Years away. The blob we are in now it looks like would be replicated in another location. You know if you have no business going there you don't have to suffer the jump, I say this with humor in mind. Were you make 6-10 little jumps to go 100 light years or more , the act of jumping that far instead of 30,000 Light years, yes it should be a bit longer than a normal jump no matter how you look at it. I'm just saying make the experience of traversing that far intense!

When I mention simulation I'm not so much talking about the actions we perform but the handling and feel of what were using to perform a task. The difference between flying a Vulture and a Federal assault/dropship/gunship are clearly different in dealing with power levels, energy management and mass are clearly different, and have to be learned to handle efficiently. Planetary Vehicles are a great example of this in how they respond to different strengths of gravity. High gravity less jump less bounce. Longer trips through frame shift means more time in the tunnel and more energy is to be used. Maybe even station assistance to create the effects needed for the trip. Many examples of gates exist from Eve Online to Mass Effect to Stargate to too many to list. Remember the scale of what were dealing with and this is not Star Wars or Star Trek were the tech exists to move across distances like that or more with ease.
