Newcomer / Intro I was just shot down by the station and I don't know why

First of all, I am very sure I had no fine, bounty, dormant bounty at all .. not with that faction involved or any other.

I got docking granted, then while autodocking it became rejected:

I found this in the log:

Code:

What hostilities could I possibly commit while autodocking. It says I assaulted somebody. I certainly did not. Is this a bug or how can this be explained?

I didn't even have the controller in my hand at that time, cause I wanted to entertain some biological needs while docking.

This has happened to me once, docking permission granted, I was entering station. All of a sudden, it said something about docking permission rejected and then they shot and killed me. However, I was definitely wanted. I was trying to sneak into station because I was running on life support and had no where else to go.

Are you sure you were not wanted? Your log file does say that you are a criminal

Did you bump into another ship while auto docking which resulted in their destruction? Auto docking is not perfect, it does make mistakes, and I think that is by design.

Looking at your log file, it looks like you had a 400 cr bounty because you killed a Skimmer in that system.

It also looks like you were blocking a landing pad. Again, were you paying attention to the actions of your auto docker?

BTW, I didn't know those logs existed!

No, I was not really paying attention to what the auto-docking was doing. As mentioned. I use those auto-docking procedures sometimes to get some food or drink or visit the lavatory.

I was fighting Skimmers as a part of a mission a few days ago. And it has been coincidentally that same faction. I got a bounty with a 5 or 10 minute expiry timer for that. After that short time had past, that bounty turned into a fine which I paid.

Since I have a 7day dormant bounty with a different faction finally expire I am actually paying attention and I am sure I did not have a dormant bounty with that faction .. well .. now I do from that above incident.

Maybe it was that bug. I cannot tell, if it was 'raining' skimmers. The loitering probably happened because my docking grants were revoked .. I guess.

Well .. will see if it is going to happen again.

Regards

My guess is you had a dormant bounty and got scanned on the way in. When you get scanned with a dormant bounty it becomes active and you become wanted.

Wouldn't that show in the log somehow different? As I said, I am very sure I did not have ANY dormant bounty at that time.

It was the "it's raining skimmers, hallelujah!" bug. You can see that in the logs clearly:

Code:
{ "timestamp":"2017-08-30T07:44:43Z", "event":"ReceiveText", "From":"Ogden Depot", "Message":"$StationAggressorResponseMessage;", "Message_Localised":"Hostility logged, lethal response authorised.", "Channel":"npc" }

The events unfolded as follows:
you were approaching a planetside station, a skimmer spawned above you (bug), at 07:44:43 it hit your ship while falling down, station recorded that as an aggressive act, revoked docking permission and at 07:44:44 you got the crime committed message.

Almost all of this because FDev wanted to force players to use SRV while doing skimmer missions, removed the ability to target them from a ship, so players started ramming them, to counter that they added "godlike" properties to skimmers, they drop your shield and damage you badly on contact. Add a bug where they spawn ABOVE the planetary base and fall down like bombs into the mix, and you have this weird outcome.

Definately looks like a Goliath hit you then crash landed and died. The station puts you to blame for this and your reward is insta-vapourisation. Put a ticket in and fdev will refund your rebuy (not sure about cargo and any missions will probably have failed).
Your best approach to planetary landings at present is low and from great distance, much like those antique aircraft on Earth back in the early days of flight. Never approach them from above, this is asking for skimmer rain to pelt you with a bad case of certain deadness. Approaching from further out it gives the skimmers chance to spawn and drop to their intended positions while you are beyond range.

Thanks for the hint. I will keep that in mind when approaching planetary landings in future.

I will just suck it up. The damage was not that big, not even for a newbie like myself :)

Yes, approach low but distance does not make that much difference as the skimmers only spawn as you get very close so low and slow is the key. You will see the skimmers spawn and drop down then you are safe to proceed as normal.

I was unaware of all of this. Its interesting because all I have been doing lately is scan missions. I have yet to see this happen. I usually go in from above at about 30-45 degree angle on decent and get as close as I can on the way down. Odd that I havent seen this happen or have it happen to me. Hope I didnt just jinx myself. So, does this happen when the base appears? Maybe its not happening on this mission type or something. Seems like I would have been hit with it by now.

yeah it's a weird one because I was doing data missions between WU Guinagi and HIP next door, Van whats'ername and the ground base, docked there 100's of times no issues, took one passenger mission to another system (ground base) and got wiped out by a skimmer!

I haven't been hit by one of these but I was aware of it from posts I had seen in the salt mine (aka Dangerous Discussions) however I was visiting one of the engineers a couple of days ago and was following my now usual practice of flying round the base rather than over it to get to my landing pad, just as I turned in towards my pad whilst dropping the landing gear I saw something streak straight down out of the corner of my eye from what I could tell it would have been very close if I wasn't turning and slowing.

Yeah .. it's really is no fun.

I died a few times more due to the dormant bounty now. That faction seems to be very often used for planetary outposts. Everytime resetting the dormant bounty when I try to land without checking the faction in advance.

Sort of no fun like that. :(
