Greetings fellow Elites,
Unfortunately I've been out of the loop for a while, but bear with me if you will. I was wondering if you'd ever start doing player build bases. I have a funny idea floating in my head that I think would be quite... Interesting.
What if, when starting to build your base, you'd have to start with stopping an asteroid (I say stopping, but it'd basically be just scanning and landing on a moving asteroid which you'd pick up with your Planetary Approach Suite, since it's so fine you'd be able to make out potential "basestart-points" (for the lack of a better term). You'd just have to reprogram the sensor; so I'd say.) on which you'll start to build your "base" (Few struts and a bit of metal to land on as a first stage.) and gradually increase the size and complexity to your liking until it'd be a full-on starport. Pick a system, search around, find something nice and start building.
Would that be something interesting? I wouldn't know how to portray it towards other players visiting the system, especially when they're in another instance, buuuutttt... It could always be that a player can only have so many bases and those are then returned by the server by an across the world player and can jump into direct contact, joining their instances? Also about development progression etc.: Can we do the some kind of early builds, but nothing is sure and a lot is prone to failure/glitches/bugs/etc. so we can test it out and tweak if necessary.
Basically rip Eve Online off but then with a better fitting "learning"-treeideathing and with our own "building" utensils on our ships. Getting one's base's resources all by oneself, flying to and from asteroids, installing a whole metal production facility inside one's Anaconda or re-purpose an Orca (maybe some less expensive ships too, would be nice to at least be able to do something...). Open up the cargo-bay, dump out the building materials and have some sort of arm-module-grabby-thingthings installed to put it all into place and weld it stuck, or drill, which ever is preferable for the installation. That'd be sick. Little bit of space engineers, but then... Without going first person? Or would that be precisely something you're interested in? Or is that a bit.. too much of a mix?
Anyway, I'd love to hear what you've got in town for base-building and any other ideas you have about it.
