I wish people could not switch between SOLO and OPEN mode

Currently, one can choose SOLO or OPEN before they begin their play session. I feel only one choice should be allowed which would be a permanent one for the character being played. Does anyone else feel this should be the case? Why should people have the choice of jumping back and forth whenever they feel like it? Why should a trader risk OPEN verses SOLO? Anyone trading to make some money would be silly in my opinion to risk themselves in OPEN.

Sorry, but to me a good game must have more structure than what is currently being offered, and it is breaking the enjoyment for me. If a game is not a level playing field for all, then I must not understand what makes a good game. If this is an MMO, then what is the MMO about? I don't understand. I understand though, believe me, how some people want to play it thier way. There is a difference to me though about playing a game your way, and then also having a game your way.

How can a game succeed when there are those who do not want to share in the same game mode experience? At least when I would see a Commander in OPEN with the permanent choice in place, I would know that character does not jump back and forth. It makes me wonder why I am even playing this to begin with. Perhaps I just don't understand what Elite Dangerous is, or what it is supposed to be about, and if that is the case, then my apologies.

Oh boy here we go again.

This has been discussed ad nauseam, it just goes around in circles until it gets ugly and the thread gets closed. The game is a level playing field for all, as everyone has the same options in regards to Solo, Private Group, and Open. The way it works is the way FD decided it would work and its not going to change now.

It would be nice to be able to make more than one Commander, and play one in Solo, entirely separate from Open.

I'd like to both enter the Open world from scratch, and without risk to my Solo assets, as well as playing Solo without any other player messing with the Influence ratings, so I can go around making factions expand by myself, at my leisure.

I guess someone logged out while you were trying to grief them?

I think people should play as they would like and should be allowed to switch as they see fit, but I would like to have the choice to disable solo play as a start option to ensure my character stays within the rules for the whacky Elite Races and is not disqualified by an accidental missclick.

These decisions were made at the design stage between FD and the backers who donated enough to be part of the design process.

I wish people wold do a bit of research on a games core menanics before buying rather than buy and then moan, trying to stuff it up for those who are happy.

But my wishes are irelavent

Here we go again indeed... as mentioned before, there is ONE feature FD has put out that is massively under-used

how much would the use of that one little thing reduce this kind of redundancy?

But that's exactly the problem. If you were a player hunter, notorious for destroying all people you see... did you get there because you are skilled, or because you ferry cargo in safe mode and have an OP ship now. I'm sure it will come one day, but they need another universe that uses another commander and only allows for people to play in that mode. Even better is to use the PoE model and have two modes for that, one is the hardcore mode where if you die you drop back to the regular mode. That way when someone has acouple million invested in a ship it's because they did it in spite of all the other players trying to drag them down, not because they can just hit a button and turn off all danger. Accomplishment currently means nothing because anyone can do anything given enough time, it's not even Elite: Dangerous, because there is no danger.
