I wonder if Elite on PS4 might take advantage of the Second Screen feature...

Wouldn't it be cool if one could use the "second screen" feature of then Playstation App as kind of an MFD to controll stuff like frame drive and such?

Or... if ED will support a regular keyboard, would there be interest to have something like then Thrustmaster Cougar MFD's for PlayStation?

i use the Cougars with my Poor Mans Cockpit and love them ( relatively cheap ). I'm just about adding a PlaySeat Challange to complete my setup. Will I love the Cougars I would like to have them be lit in the center so I can use printable overhead foils as inlay ( I'm playing in a dark room a lot :) ) but since i'm eagerly waiting ED on PS4 (iMac is no burners ) I was thinking about bulding my own MFD's instead wich would also work with PS4 ( while then cougars won't ).

Also would I add some extra large buttons those that I can easily find while wearing my PSVR ( for War Thunder, Eve wich will support the Thrustmaster Hotas 4 this week )

while i really like then Hotas4 ( and it's the only option for PS4 by now ) it should have more Buttons!

anybody else here looking for something like this?

My gut feeling is that the HOTAS (Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS?) might get support, I seriously doubt we will get second screen apps, very few games on PS4 have ever supported this and its probably not worth FDevs time to implement it. Although I am unlikely to buy a HOTAS simply because it will be lotsa mullah for one game, I'll just have to "git gud" with a controller.

I am "hoping" that keyboard support will allow for bindings but I am not even hopeful of that because apparently its not supported on Xbox (Although I am not 100% sure if this is an MS rule that's enforced). I know Sony do allow keyboard use in games for PS4 but again very few support it.

I doubt anything exotic will get supported.

I am struggling to find / remember many PS4 games that run second screen. The only one I could get was MGSV which uses the second screen as a map.
To add to the doubt, I doubt that many developers even knew it existed.

Don't get me wrong, I would love a second screen on my iPad, covering off some of the cockpit screens but xBox hasn't implemented the SmartGlass second screen solution so it'll be a surprise if it appeared on PS4. :(

I learned there has been some strong indication last week ;-)

Seems the Xbox One does not really support keyboard natively, that might be the reason.
I also hope for keyboard bindings on PS4 because this will allow for easy chat & easy access to commonly used controls like frame drive and such. Elite partly lives from being a detailed simulation with a lot of available controls. So it well might bei possible to scrum them to a small gamepad an it's for sure good enough for an casual gamer or then Ego Shooter Generation. But for serious simulation fun having extra buttons is mandatory :).

If there is Keyboard mapping in Elite PS4 I know the cure :)

Asolutly, right now even a Hotas is exotic to the PlayStation with only one being released ( besides tons of steering wheels ) and only two Games Support it by now. War Thunder, being one of the two, supports keyboard and mouse as well! Since I play that a lot I will design my PlaySation MFD anyway but using it for Elite later on would be lovely.

so let's hope they support Keyboard then I will be ready to do what's left :)

We can use a USB keyboard on the XboxOne right now for text input only. If you can use a keyboard on the ps4 now, i have no reason to believe this can't be done in Elite Dangerous. ;)

I guess it all depends on *if* FD support it. That's the biggy.

They better do :) from what can be read between the lines they had a hard time on XBOX and also have to come up with a lot of compromises on the PS4 to scram all basic commands to a Game Controller in a usable manner.
I use a Hotas 4 with TrackIR on my iMAC and that just about works for me ( still I need to have at least 4 Buttons assigned to my Thrustmaster Cougar MFD´s that are permanently used ).

Especially the TrackIR is almost mandatory in this setup because it allows me to use the Screens in Cockpit by looking at them and the preset for the Hotas 4 then has the Coolie Hat assigned to Cursor and two buttons on the WCS for Back / Forth with Fire 1 being select.
ThereforeI can quit comfortly use all main functions without ever releasing the grip to my Hotas. ( Still things like Framedrive, Landing Gear, and minor system functions require me to press keys on the MFD or Keyboard )

I never have been a big mouse + keyboard fan when it comes to Simulators ( which I play most ) because especially in dogfight there is no room for fiddley controls ( strg + alt + A to do something ). As would be with Gamepads ( precission flight is impossible for me with Gamepad Sitcks ). Well might be that's because im a Pilot in real live as well ( not professional however ) there for sure is nor STRG + ALT + DEL in a Cockpit I tell ya :)

KB/M is very well supported on the PS4 even games like Paragon that are in developed still have excellent support.

For me (unless there is keybinding advantages) I think I will just stick to the controller, playing this on the console and big screen is about kicking back laying down on the couch. Of course I have no doubt setting up a cockpit would be insane I will leave that to SC if/when.

My expectations versus wants might change if there does end up being PSVR support and it doesn't downgrade the game too much, I would rather amazing visuals then 1st gen VR.

I think it is almost sure that the Thustmaster 4 HOTAS will be supported. It is specifically marketed for the PS4 (and yet it still just supports one game) and on PC it can be used with ED -- it seems absurd that it wouldn't work. Considering the affordable price (around 70 bucks on Amazon) I will most definitely buy it together with ED.

Eve: Valkyrie will ad to the list of supporter Games with the update to release tomorrow.

This will be the Basis for my planed "Poor Mans Cockpit" it's relatively cheap (200€) and foldable. The modifications will add support to mount the Hotas 4 to it as well as on MFD in front of Stick & Throttle. I also might modify the Pedal support to be able to have an good angle for the TPRF Rudder. A VESA Mount for adding an Screen might also be worth having.

the Modifications will also allow to simply unplug all input devices from PC or Console and fold Away the complete Cockpit without disassembly ( like playseat meant it to be :) )

the MFDs will need some weeks of work since I have to build them from Scratch ( there are none that one might buy right now ). And there will be a set of extra large buttons that can be reached without moving the Hands to far from the sticks for VR. Playing War Thunder with PlayStation Camera and MFD's will be the first to do once it's completed. VR hopefully is soon to follow for WT. Eve might first of all still lag support for Keyboard but still, what I really am waiting for will be Elite!!!!

For those interested, first concept study on the physical layout. Right next to the two pices of the Hotas 4 there will be two MFD Pannels wich basicaly reassemble what we usually see of the pilots chairs controls in Elite.

The lower part will feature mechanical buttons while the upper part is a backlit capatouch matrix. you can then make a transparent overlay of your own likening to generate your personal quick action buttons. On the right hand pad there also will be an integrated 4 port USB hub with 3 ports beeing accessible for extra use ( hotas, normal keyboard for texting ) one free port also will support battery charging profile with up to 2A ( to supply the Tablet ) the position of the MFDs will make it easy to find them even with VR Headset on. Since these will not be PS4 exclusive and keyboard support for PS4 is not jet confirmed, further posts will end up in a more suited sub-forum. Comments are welcome :)
