I wonder what goes though frontiers head sometimes...

So in one of the recent patches, they've gone and fixed the exploit for surface scan missions.. they no longer raise the data point just from ship proximity. This isn't the problem though, what im really shocked at is they still haven't fixed the targeting reticule animation.

The almighty frontier deemed it worthy of their time to fix content that surely is only done for roleplay purposes.. this shows awareness they still know what's in their own game.. but when taking a look they still leave in such blatant ui bugs that make a huge part of the mission experience look like it was done by childrens amateur hour.

The fact they could walk up to a thing, fix the exploit, yet leave such a problem with the core experience untouched is both alarming and not complimentary to their development processes.

There's just no care.

So with carriers, the introduced docking computer bug with landing gear already down and the transfer dialog half baking are permanent additions to the game now?

Has frontier ever done a third patch for a feature ever?

Due to the title of the thread, and the later mention of the word Bugs, the answer would have to be:

Their behinds, when they hit a car windscreen...boom boom.

I dunno if its lack of care, but attention to detail is MIA, and has been for a while now.

Carriers were almost 3 years in development - or at least almost 3 years between announcement and release.

No-one thought about Commanders looking out of a window during jumps? Or even Carrier Traffic Control (CTC) acknowledging that you're the owner of the Carrier you're landing at and not just another Commander? Hearing CTC asking me "what can we do for you?" has me thinking Do I even own this thing?!

They can all still be done from a ship afaik, there are just slight variants of layout (ie sometimes it's a different beacon) and the targeting range has been narrowed to make it a little harder to target & complete the scan. I usually do them in a Python.

But doing them with an SRV is a lot of fun ;)

CMDRs don't own Fleet Carriers - they're leased. The 5x10^9Cr is just a security deposit...

Now, imagine that with Odyssey. They've been working on it since, what? Just before 3.3? By the time it releases it would've been 2+ FULL years of development.

2-3 years of development to... essentially rent a carrier. Odyssey ain't lookin too good...

I just pray that I'm only overreacting, and that Odyssey really is a "new era"... but i'm not keeping my hopes up.

I really don't like to criticise the designers, developers and QA team assigned to Elite Dangerous. They are been given directions by someone who just doesn't seem to care about the game - who that is, I don't know. It is however plain to see that the current game is stagnant and Odyssey contains at least one let down so far (no VR) so its future is not looking rosy.

FDev only seems to care about a financial success, not a critical success.

You know guys, I agree with you all.
The biggest shame of it is the fantastic job they did with the sound(love all those little sounds), and didn't carry that innovation to the other departments.
Let's also hope that godly sound design carries into odyssey. I get why cannons sound so wimpy in space, but in atmosphere? They BETTER sound like actual cannons while down on the new planets.

Otherwise, I ain't buyin'! 😤

I agree. I've seen lots of evidence that there are some amazingly talented and creative developers at Frontier, because there are lots of amazing bits and pieces in the game. It's the upper management / "whoever glues those pieces together" who seems to be clueless. One clueless leader can negate a team full of geniuses. I've been in this situation myself, and it was a painful place to be in (I was a clever developer, not the clueless leader).

This is true and right from launch. It's understandable as DB is running a business, and a public one where they focus on shareholder value above everything else especially for their own incentives/bonuses/rewards $$. But customer satisfaction was never, ever the top priority over the past 6 years now. Never.

Interestingly look at where things are today: Elite remains a niche title and niche game. It survives on an isolated fanbase buying microtransactions. The (once again) overly hyped upcoming 2021 update will do little to expand the fanbase, and, arguably IMO, it would have been a much better business decision to simply forgo this 'walking thing' and focus on 'Elite v2.0' to attract new players. But since they didn't it suggests this 'walking thing' update will be very limited, and that the company's main focus remains on other titles/franchises and pursuits like dino's and rollercoasters. And that would make good business cents and add shareholder value. But for gameplay? Who cares. It's all $$$
