I would absolutly love if we had an ingame radio!!!

Something I really liked about the old elite games was the in-game classical music. I would love to have something to listen to while trading, traveling, exploring and mining. Classical music has always gone well with the theme of space and (correct me if I'm wrong) since it's all so old I don't think there would be licensing fees to worry about. There could be three channels. One would be Galnet news, the next one would be soft relaxing classical, and lastly there would be a loud classical channel so I can kill pirates to Ride of the Valkyries.

Isn't there a Galnet news station now? You can play Galnet articles.

This was a suggestion I had made a few years back and I was psyched to see it real in the game.

I think he means something akin to GTA series, with music, commercials, the occasional news break, etc. I would be a huge supporter of such a concept, though the question is could Fdev get the license rights to contemporary music, or would they have to come up with something new, at the very least the commercials and galnet news bits would require alot of time in the audio studio to record. But I would love it, it would break up the quiet.

Back in the days I used to have this little add-on audio player for my 2004 flight simulator. Basically it was very basic and lightweight audio player, which was playing MP3 or OGG files from particular folder. Interface was made in the shape of some car cd player which was shown in the airplane cockpit as a separate panel. It was pretty nice. I wish we could have something like that in our ships for those exploration trips thousands LY away from the bubble and our SRVs for those long trips across some desert.

I recommend buying an actual radio :D

Licensed music would be great, I would love some Hammock! But honestly I would be happy with some royalty free music. I do like the Galnet news station, I just feel like I the articles go by really quick. I understand that it takes a lot of work to write them and put them in the game.

I could buy a radio, but where I live they only play country music and not very good country music. :( It would feel nice to have an integrated thing that I could just reach over and use inside my ship.

I was thinking of it being less GTA and more like Fallout new Vegas' music channels. Where its mostly music and a DJ says some fluff text about the next song every once in a while. The Radio in GTA seems like it would be a lot more work and I'm afraid it might become too repetitive with all the dialogue.

I finally got an auto dock and the music it plays reminded me of playing Frontier First Encounter messing up my attempt to get to New Hope and floating off into space with no fuel to Blue Denube. I haven't gotten to play the earlier Elite games I played the third one, it had some classical music in it; Hall of the Mountain King, Ride of the Valkyries and some others. I think the music just played though I don't think there was a niffty radio or anything.

(edited it to add paragraphs sorry to write so much. :) )

Okay so I did some research and all songs made before 1924 are now in Public Domain. But now for the bad news, ALL sound recordings are kept in public domain until 2067. So if Elite Dangerous devs wanted to make this radio they would have to pay to either use someones recordings of the classics or pay musicians to record new ones. Do we have any talented musicians on here who would like to play for our radio? :D

Hey Inara Radio is pretty cool!! I can't believe how many channels there are. My computer is kinda old though so I can't really use a browser in the background of the game. I know I can just listen to a cd player or something but I do think it would be really cool if it was a feature inside my space ship, I think it would be world building and add to immersion.

I would like to be able to specify multiple digital ragio URLs
And then use on an ingame radio.

I could then play radio sidewinder in cockpit

That could actually be an easy way for Fdev to deliver this option, that way the radio station holder deals with all the licensing issues and Fdev essentially just makes a glorified audio player. This would allow someone like me to make the "Talk Radio" segments talking about in game events as a real person and offering editorializations, kind of like how Three Dog would comment about in game events.

and if Fdev wanted to enter into the arena in the future with their own radio station, all they would do is patch in their resource address into the panel as a hard coded station.

I guess an easy way to do radio would be to make it structured file wise like Fallout new vegas so that you could just put whatever music you wanted into the folder and listen to a personalized in game radio. I know there are a huge amount of easy to install mods that add whole new channels and replace songs in that game. Also if the users are opening the files and throwing in music the devs aren't really using any of the songs officially and I think that would keep them out of trouble.

I don't know much about "multiple digital ragio URLs " Could you tell more about them?
