I’m not sure what you mean by “and so soon?” Given that we’ve kept getting DLCs for longer than most of us thought we would.
I think most of us thought 2023 would be the longest they would go.
That being said, I think a sequel to the game is a good idea, just not for a while. If a sequel was released 10 years after the original (2029!) or around then, I think that’d actually be pretty fair. Lots of time for people to spend building and sharing their PZ1 zoos, and nobody would feel like Frontier was devaluing all the time and passion people put into them, or that all the money we spent on DLCs was wasted. By that year, we’d be tired of the old graphics and mechanics and ready for something new.
If Planet Coaster gets a sequel around 2026, after all, that would be ten years after the original.
Frontier needs to get back on their feet. I’m an optimist about it, because if I’ve heard right, they ARE planning on focusing on the Planet franchise. Not only would this be a good financial plan, given the success of Planet Zoo, this would also benefit me because I’d love to play a Planet Coaster 2 or any other “Planet” ideas they have.
But seriously, we might be pleasantly surprised by future games and how everything is handled. As disappointed as I am that we’ll probably never get that aviary bird expansion, we might all be happier if Frontier puts their focus on improving the core mechanics of how their Planet games work. And who knows what cool games will come out of it.
