I would instantly pay 500$ if Frontier would...

I believe that no matter WHAT you asked Frontier to do,,,,,,,

If it came with a $500 price tag you would only find single digit (And a SMALL single digit) percentage of players that would pony up that kind of money.

And at the end of the day, the amount of work (hours spent coding) involved would be in the red from a labor cost view, given the amount of paying customers.

But it is a cool thought,,,,,,,,,,

That proposal had a safety-net though - not true Ironman!

It was ironman in the sense that the character was lost to the ironman mode, but I take your point. :)
.
Does 'true ironman' erase your entire C: drive when you die, then drop acid over the remains?

How hard would an Ironman mode be to program, anyway? Just have it so that when your ship's destroyed it clears your save, simples!

I'd rather see the game become more challenging, than more punishing.

Right now, the only actual dangers seem to be fickle, badly balanced quirks, like being murdered for parking violations, or because your turret splashed the police for a split second, or someone "friendly" rammed you. This does not make me want to even entertain the idea of perma-death; to lose all your progress because the game farted is not appealing.

If the game's galaxy was actually filled with interesting, deadly things... like anarchy systems that were actually anarchic, and hidden pirate bases covered in automated defences, or uncharted mine fields, or asteroids that actually moved... then maybe perma-death would mean something.

You can play this way now, if you enforce the penalty on yourself. Every time you die, just delete your save and start over.
Not nearly the same, becouse in real HC you know that every Player you see is a balls-of-steel as well. Right now i cant even be sure if a player i see earned his ship without logging between the modes.

The proposal in the DDA was only permadeath if you didn't hit your escape pod eject button soon enough.

I suspect FD are not happy enough with the stability, bugs and issues like combat logging and client hacks to want to deal with Ironman Mode players and their inevitable complaints (yet).

Yup, yup. What I was referring to was the notion of introducing a completely new mechanic to the game by way of players asking for it with the offer of "If I (and others) give you $500 would you make\provide\include this new feature,,,,"
