General / Off-Topic I would shell out serious cash for an Elite Dangerous show

Like, Fdev! C'mon! You've sowed a rich developed sci-fi universe here and it's ripe for the reaping. I'm talkin' high budget TV/HBO series. Maybe a GoT style storytelling where different characters help tell the story of the world all from different perspectives. Like, we got some hotshot independent bounty hunter taking down some thargoids one one hand. On another we got an imperial interdictor crewman fighting the Nova Imperium, and on yet another we got some classy fed diplomat working closely with Felicia Winters. I need that in my life please. Thanks.

(you don't owe me anything by the way, feel free to use all that).

FD aren't TV producers. It's also dangerous (har har) territory for games companies to venture into film-making. Just ask Square.

Thankfully DB isn't Chris Roberts.

The smartest thing they could do would be to pitch an ED universe show to a network and see if they'll license it, but they would (and should) not really have much to do with it beyond consultancy. Really, any aspiring showrunner could ask FD for permission to pitch an ED show to a network. But, given Dark Matter (an excellent and very elitish show) didn't get any traction I wouldn't hold your breath.

Rebellion Developments have gone into film and tv productions, so we shouldn't rule out frontier forming frontier tv and films studios. Imagine a tv series about someone taking on a close down theme park and rebuilding it from scratch or a tv series set in the elite dangerous universe. Both have potential.

Dark Matter gained enough traction that up to 3 companies wanted to continue it and it was only when the producers was going to sign a deal with one of them that syfy being utter pricks they are decided to stop it by using a clause in their existing contract.

Will be interesting to see how Rebellion goes. FD might be better off trying to convince them to do an Elite show than trying it themselves.

You'd probably need 'space legs' to be in place to give more locations. Even the original series of Star Trek had more sets than just the bridge or exterior shots of the Enterprise

I'd stick to the books.

TV + gaming = bad things.

Books though, perversely, are actually a great thing for video games. I'd like to see more ED novels.

They could start with, a voted 'best live stream'; of the week. Shown on F.D. site. Then do a daily steam contest. Players could have an opted in, or out, option, when steaming their stuff.

Then maybe: Said part of F.D. site, could run live streams, in a couple of years. C.Gs and any other events.

They don't need the T.V. networks, they could simply make their own on-line, over time.
