I you act like you're cheap to get...

I pre-ordered CP2077 and Odyssey right when they were released for pre-order.

I got my moneys worth of fun out of CP2077. 300 hours in, only minor bugs and still a whole lot to do and explore.

I have alot of fun -> Money very well spent.

Same for Odyssey. Sure, FDev has a lot to fix. But overall I'm more than happy. And after ~100 Odyssey hours I also got my moneys worth of fun and I'll add another 1000 hours to this.

I have alot of fun -> Also money very well spent.

It's always depending on your expectations.

And honestly: I'd have bought both games anyway. It really doesn't matter if I pay early and get a few extras after release or if I pay when it's official released.

Pretty much this for me.

I also pre-ordered both games, but I did so knowing that I was an early adopter and that perhaps at launch I would see a lot more issues than people who pick it up months later on discount.

I know it's a gamble and in some cases it works out, in other cases I have to shelve the games a bit until they patch out most of the issues I encounter. If the risk is too big for me, then I let other people be the early adopters and have them make sure the worst issues are ironed out before I consider buying something.

This doesn't just apply to games in my case, but also other types of gear not related to gaming. Even with music hardware I've had to pay the price for being an early adopter, in the sense that later revisions of that hardware fixed some issues I had, but because I bought early I won't be getting those fixes (unless I buy the latest revision).

So with software/games I'm not too bothered about encountering (some/a lot of) issues when I made the choice to be one of the first in line. I can understand people not being happy with the state Odyssey launched in, but for me personally I was ready to take the chance of something like this happening (and I still have faith patches will be coming).

I pre-ordered the expansions back in 2015 for 180 USD.
Back then Frontier seemed set on making a comprehensive, engaging, and contextually apt game experience.

I was offered CP by a family member. I enjoyed it. Also, CDprojekt is a trustworthy company. They spent years building their trust with the player by their honest actions and goodwill. I'm not going to throw them under the bus for a single mistake.

On the other hand, my trust capital was already low for Frontier. And the DLC is broken for me.

I'll be honest, I knew they lied and the DLC would be a mess. The whole alpha "we have a proper build for release don't you worry" was less credible than the mail I received from that Nigerian prince.
But I was hoping it would be a playable mess. As it happens, it was not.

Not that much of an issue, once that Nigerian prince pull through, I'll be rich.

180 USD in 2015. Still playing? Looks like a great deal to me.

I paid maybe 200 USD including ARX and Odyssey and I got 1300 hours out of the game so far. Still a better deal than 90% of the AAA titles in recent years.

Sort of, and the 180 was just for the expansions. I mostly just muck around in space a bit. I've only run Odyssey for testing so far. It is effectively unplayable for me. Buggy, and I'm getting 1/3 the FPS as Horizons.

There are also several elements of this game that I do not enjoy, mostly convoluted meta progression and game-loop padding related that weren't an issue back in 2015. I avoid them when it's convenient enough to do so.

I think time spent playing a game isn't a great measure of how great the game is in general though. There are some NES games that I've been playing for over 30 years. Speaking of which, I've been meaning to pick up a copy of Elite for the NES.

Don't get me wrong, I get some satisfaction from the game, but the same could be said for any number of things that I have and have used for many years that cost a lot less too.

Do I still like and enjoy certain aspects of the game? Yes. Do I think it has been worth the price I paid and do I think it so far has turned out the way I had hoped it would? No.

That being said, Frontier isn't done making the game, so as ever it seems, I'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Cheers.
