General / Off-Topic Iain M Banks culture novels to be turned into Amazon TV series

I couldn't get into his books, but I did like his very first book 'The Wasp Factory'.

I will watch the series though when they come out, if Amazon don't make a mess of them.

I read the first two of his culture novels, but I just couldn't get into them. I might get the audio versions and try again, was too tired last time

I'm surprised actually, if you managed the Wasp factory. I think it's the names that are toughest to get your head around and Consider Phlebas is probably a must read .. it was the first Culture novel and I think the only one that actually told you what the Culture basically was, is or will be?

I'm interested in this opening post. Mega City One is also getting the treatment so as usual I guess, probably safest to think of them as a retelling, reinterpretation or completely new entity altogether. (Every character I ever read about, had a face stuck on that I made up internally).

Cool.

I really have no idea how they can make a decent TV adaptation. I wish them all the best, but i can't see it capturing the spirit of the books.

Having read all of his Sci Fi and most of his fiction, I do hope they do it right, saying that I The man in iron castle (that being on Prime) was/is very good. Its a shame he was taken from us as Im sure there were many more storys to be told.

TV/Film Adaptations of books tend to be very different. (There is a whole academic research that looks at this) Tv/film is a visual medium so money has to be on screen. Book invite you to 'imagine' a given scenario.

Did anyone see The dark tower film?

I'm a little concerned that it'll be an Amazon exclusive. How do I watch stuff on Amazon? Do I need a subscription? Will there be a boxed set I can buy instead?

Welcome to the 21st century. I own a PC. There might be Games on a xbox or ps4 that are 'exclusive' or Iphone or androids . That's how they get you to sign on to their platform. Netflix also produce 'exclusive' content.

The Culture was one of the greatest literary inventions of the 20th century. Big risk, but could be a classic.
