Ice Mining?

I'm trying to get access to Selene Jean. 500t of mining.

Today I had some spare time so I took my mining ship into both an asteroid field and a metal rich ring. Did 62t of stuff plus some materials.

Never ice mined before so went into the ice rings and went at it. Stuff there on average is worth a lot more per ton than the stuff that I got in the metals/minerals cats (maybe I got lucky). So I hung out there for the rest of the day - 4 of the 6 hours put in. By end of day I had mined over 180t of stuff.

Then I checked my Selene Jean numbers. 62t.

So it appears that chemicals don't count against Selene Jean's B.S. requirement to do business with her

Either that or there's a bug or glitch or something???? Am I missing something or what?

ASIDE: I know why there's the requirement - pretty sure anyway - but that's a different thread more suited for the ED fanbois and apologists - and my flame retardant suit is at the cleaners.

I.. vaguely recall the wording being that you have to mine 500 tons of Ore, is that correct? If so yeah that'd be it. Chemicals aren't ore so they wouldnt count I would think. Also hey while your there find a pristinie ring and mine Painite since youll need that right after.

Might be worth logging a bug report. Though it is possible that this is intended. It probably hasn't been noticed before, as not many players would be trying to gain access to Selene by ice mining, as it's the least efficient way to do this.

It's also worth checking your numbers again after restarting the game.

For the best results, mine in a pristine metallic ring, not metal-rich. Other than the occasional mission, or roleplaying, there is little reason to mine anywhere else. Metallic has the best ore yields per roid, it has the most profitable minerals and it also has the best return for materials.

You are correct OP. The metal ores count, and the stuff in ice does not.
It's not bugged.

Selene has crucial upgrades, which you will need. Stick to your plan, and you'll be done in due course.

FYI - there is something very wrong if you are getting more cash from ice mining than from metallic. Ice mining gives the poorest returns of all the ring types, they are pretty underwhelming even with missions, shame really as it is nice to look at...

He wasn't in metallic, but mining in a metal rich ring. Best you'll find there is gold and osmium.

Ore doesnt come from ice fields...just sayin. Metal rich belts are ok but metallic are better and yer gonna need better anyway cos once ye got that 500t mined, she goes and asks fer 10t of painite...metallic is the best place to find pain...ite.

I use a cool little system about 15ly from sol...it has metallic, metal rich and ice but no pristine...Im still on the lookout fer pristine rings...have fun ^

Near Sol, there are only a couple of pristine systems. Since you like to find stuff out yourself, I'll only give you a clue as to why they are still pristine. What's some of the most dangerous stars to drop into?

Dropping into a fiery ball of nuclear fusion probably wouldnt be a class idea no matter what the star was...but I get yer point ;)

Im concentrating on metallic atm cos I actually need pain...ite...Im actually not far ahead of the op, Im also trying to unlock Selene but Ive discovered I actually like mining so...will investigate further later ^

Actually feels a bit dirty being a King flying a cutter in sol...but hey ho the place is empty even in open so nobody around to see it unfortunately...and I still got bounties in empire so...sol is nice enough serves a purpose ^

The ores I got from both the asteroid belt and metal rich ring averaged around 700cr/ton. Mostly rutile, indite, bauxite, and others. I got 1t of samarium and some coltan along with 8t of silver. In the icy ring the stuff I was picking up averaged well over 1000cr/ton. In addition I seemed to find more materials - crappy ones - but more than in the belt and metal rich spots. Enough more that I can trade up on 'em.

That said: to everyone else - pristine belts and rings - metallic. Thanks!

Seriously guys, if you want Painite , the most reliable source I can remember is Delkar 7 and go for the innermost part of the ring. There's also a Res that's quite good if you can put up with a few NPC pirates. One good session in a big mining ship should get you more than enough for the second part of Selene Jean and maybe a few millions worth to spare, if you sell at the right places (best sell price according to Inara is around 136k)

There's currently no difference at all between different pristine metallic rings.
