I was wondering what the blue mountain looking symbol is at one of the ports i go to is. in the system map it shows all of the stations and one of them has that symbol next to it.

It's ship, not a mountain. It means you have a ship stored in that station.
If you never bought a second ship, it's your free eagle from the Mercenary Pack.

If you die you restart at the last station you docked at.
The blue ship marks a place where another ship yo ualready own is located. This is your free eagle for buying the Mercenary Pack. If you fly there and check the shipyard, you should see the 'owned ships' tab (the one in the middle of the three tabs) says (1). If you go to that tab, you can choose to switch into that ship.
