I'd love to play open, but lag prevents me often from it

After playing for a while with 3 fellow CMDRs in the Sorbago Capital Ship warzone, another CMDR showed up, heavily struck by lag, as his name was not displayed and his ship jumped around for a couple of meters every few seconds.
He didn't choose a side yet so it was easy to spot him as he was the only orange ship around.
Shortly after more and more NPCs started to act the same and after 2-3 minutes the whole warzone became unplayable as ships turned invulnerable due to lag.

I asked a fellow CMDR if he is experiencing the same or if it was my local connection, he indeed was.
I changed back to solo, since even SC jumping became as slow as in good old beta times.

I really wish, the "server-capacity-on-demand" would work a little faster.
Other than that *thumbs up*

Rant over :D

This is the reason I don't play Open (although I wish I could)- I'm too afraid my 2mb connection screwing up other peoples games.

It sounds more like there was an internet issue between the two of you somewhere (could be anything, from an ISP issue, backbone problem, router issue either you end, his end or in the middle) and the peer to peer side of the networking was delaying things and inducing the effects you experienced.

Even for the other CMDRs as well in this instance?
They were jumping out as well after the lag has grown.

I really wonder if this was a p2p-issue.
If so, one single bad connection would influence every others game in an instance.
I doubt that as this would be horrific.
