I'd love to try the new Deep Core Mining but...

Mat scavving 101:-

Encoded

HIP 12099 1B - Jameson crash site.
Position SRV between 4 data-beacons and scan with turret, relog and then visit mat' trader (Diaguandri - Ray Gateway)
Doesn't take long to max-out G4/G5 scans.

Lung 3 - Lockhart Prospect.
Complete sneaky base-scans from outside base to collect MEF & some other stuff and relog.
Not as useful as Jameson crash site but especially handy if you need MEF.

HIP 16613 1A - Bug Killer crash site.
Do laps of site, scanning data-points and collecting mat's, relog and then visit mat trader (HIP 12314 - Bentham Station)
Takes a bit longer than the other sites but you also collect useful G4/G5 raw mat's.

Manufactured

Pachanwen B5 - Tourist Beacon.
Lurk at Tourist Beacon in Anarchy and explode Belugas and Orcas for mat's.
Good supply of some mat's & no criminal record.

HazRES/Pirate Activity POIs.
Provides you with most of the G1-G4 manufactured mat's that you can't get from passenger ships.
Plenty of mat's but you need a fighty ship and the ongoing fight/collect routine can be a bit tedious.

HGEs.
Use FSS to locate HGEs and then go and collect them.
Unreliable, flawed & tedious but the best way to get the really good stuff.

Raw

HIP 36601 C1D
Use DSS to locate surface Bio POIs and max-out Polonium then trade for other mat's as required.
Long way to travel but totally worth it.

HIP 36601 C1A
Use DSS to locate surface Bio POIs and max-out Ruthenium then trade for other mat's as required.
Long way to travel but totally worth it.

HIP 36601 C5A
Use DSS to locate surface Bio POIs and max-out Technetium then trade for other mat's as required.
Long way to travel but totally worth it.

HIP 36601 C3B
Use DSS to locate surface Bio POIs and max-out Tellurium then trade for other mat's as required.
Long way to travel but totally worth it.

OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 B5A
Use DSS to locate surface Bio POIs and max-out Yttrium then trade for other mat's as required.
Long way to travel but totally worth it.

Wolf 587 4EA
Use DSS to locate surface Geo POIs and collect Selenium then trade for other mat's as required.
Not as good as the Bio POIs but the best direct source of Selenium.

Before taking a trip to HIP 36601/OUTOTZ LS-K D8-3 it's worth trading ALL your remaining raw mat's for Selenium cos you'll easily fill your stocks of every other raw mat from the surface Bio POIs.
Pachanwen B5.
Not heard of that, cheers!

Hooray for the forums! \o/

Here are a few places to get planetary elements.

If you build a salvage ship and collect planetary salvage you will also get Materials.
You can also get Data from Data Points.

Enjoy

Mainly his assertion that there are never more than one core in less than 100 km area. Give this a bit of time for Google to process it, but it is clear that I found many core rocks in a lot less than a 100 km area. --> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1u3VIqC4CYYXGgKuv-P4aOXgUtJRggQOg Indeed if you look close you can see that I found several so close together that I was cracking some rocks while I was in the debris cloud from other rocks.
Here is the closest I have found two Core Rocks. About 4.25km

Enjoy

I don't think having a large ship in mining is a disadvantage. The collector limpets do all the work!
Don't you feel like mining in a big ship takes longer because the cruise speed is so low? Seems like 5 limpets on a Python do a quick job of picking up the ore, but you can boost between rocks faster and get more prospecting done per hour.

HUmnn.. Since I am routinely finding core rocks less than 10 km apart, I don't see why it would be necessary to have a high cruise speed and certainly have no reason to be doing any boosting.

I wouldn't say lack of speed is a problem for large ships but lack of agility can be.
If you're trying to aim and fire seizmic charges in something like an Annie, as AspX will, literally, be capable of flying circles around you.

I can mine DC 'roids in my T10 if I find 'em but it's like trying to run underwater.
Much, much, more relaxed in a Python, or Krait, or AspX.

I'm not a creds per hour player. Real life is all about financial targets and $'s per hour. Not interested in carrying that thru to my game! Plus you make so many creds mining, even if you're not in a hurry, you still end up making more creds than you know what to do with in a very short time frame.

I guess people went a bit nuts with the mining at first because they figured FDev would nerf it.

Now it's become apparent that they aren't going to nerf it, I guess we can throttle-back a bit.

Personally, I just do a bit of this and that and if I'm in an area for a couple of days I'll transfer an AspX or Python across and have a session of mining to put Cr100m-Cr200m in the bank.
Arrived back in the bubble at the end of March with Cr4bn in the bank, I've spent around Cr1.5bn on ships since then and I've still got Cr4.6bn in the bank now.
It's almost impossible to lose credits now, as long as you do a bit of mining once in a while.

I do exploration on my way to my mining spot. Sure will be glad when the FDEV fixes the surface mapping.

I actually stopped regular mining because of the absurd profit margin (kind of sad really).
My dream was that they'd make hot spots deplete permanently so that explorers finding good rings would bring the gold rush to the outer rim, and bubble mining would be like the standard depleted-ring yield.

Then rim stations would buy opals for a lower rate and post lucrative cargo missions to bring ore to the core planets.

It would be a simple tweak that would revivify several roles.

Ok. Got both Pythons home and sold 404 tons of cargo, about 300 was LTD's. 7 jumps in each ship and not one interdiction attempt. Definitely going to hunt down some class A thrusters since the last two rocks were really spinning and in tight group with other rocks making me have to try and shoot charges as the fissure rotated in front of me.

Thanks for the further replies all. I've not had a moment to play ED yet, I'm hoping to have a couple of hours one evening.

Edit: still not had chance to play....I hold some hope for the weekend!

Scoob.
