I had an idea this morning that might help you guys out, while at the same time giving the community an awesome opportunity to partake in the creation of this amazing world you've developed.
What if you held monthly/quarterly community-created content contests? (try saying that 5 times fast
)
I've done some of these in the past for other games and it was very well received from the players
There could be some for 3D models for asset creation, animations, or even snippets of code that are already needed for future features. As a programmer/3D artist, I know I would personally LOVE the opportunity to see my 'alien plant' or 'ship kit' or something integrated into your game, and I'm sure I'm not alone! It would allow your community to impart something personal into the game, bringing us closer together.. while at the same time, saving you time, money, and effort to generate the expansive amount of content needed for future features!
Obviously, if any resources were made available to us for creating this content, we could sign NDA's and agree that you own any content created to make it official.. but I think a lot of us would be 100% ok with that
Finally, you could even have small prizes (or even just a ship decal/holo-me shoulder emblem) to give a little back to the players who make submissions.
So.... what d'ya think??
