IDEA - 'Community fed Media Hub' accessible from ship. - "GCC" (Galnet Commander's Community)

To make those long journeys less tedious. I had this idea come to mind yesterday.

In your ship, have an option to pull up some kind of media hub filled with community generated content. It would appear in your suit's visor like the station screens. There would be tabs on the left or along the top breaking the different forms of media into categories. Some things for this that come to mind are:

  • Pictures taken in game
- You could have a scrollable grid of screen shots taken by players. when taking a screen shot, a little notice would come up asking if you would like to 'upload to galnet?') On there would be a rating system for them, sorting options (list by most recent, most likes, most commented) Selecting one would take you to the full size image with relevent meta data (taken by, taken where, taken when, current 'like' score e.t.c.) and a limited text comment section listed under the picture. something similar to twitter in terms of a small text space. There could be regular competitions for best picture, best picture of 'x' thing and so on. There could be pages dedicated to specific competitions.
- I can imagine really enjoying casually browsing image banks like this, reading through comments, liking things I like and so forth, simply to while away the 3-5 minutes it takes to get 1000+ls across this system.

  • Community written stories
- Here you could have a Breakdown of titles in list form, together with a small description of what the story is, and the name of the author. Selecting a book/story would simply present the book in game, to be read at your leisure as and when you see fit. All books would remember your current page automatically, so you can open it up at the next opportunity and carry on where you left off.
-Potential entries could be vetted, either on the forums, and/or by the backers, and/or by the devs, before they are fed into the story bank. This will obviously take time to build up, but as this is such an imaginative, dedicated and vibrant community, with stories already written of the ED universe. A smaller, in game, community version to me seems a perfect solution to fill in the tedious gaps of 'nothingness' on long trips across the galaxy.

  • Current Main Events
- This could be a bulletin type affair with a list of current galaxy wide 'main events' listed. Selecting an event would bring you too the main article, with again a comments section underneath where commanders can discuss the events taking place. This could have a similar system to reddit, as I feel that type of comments system would work well for something like this.

I think, if this is done well, it will add a brilliant new dimension to the game world, a more immediate way for players to feel connected to the rest of the community and game world, while bringing an arena of causal interest browsing. I would love to be able to always have in the back of my mind the knowledge that I have that interesting story to turn back to when I see this next stop is going to take a good 6 minutes to get to. Rather than sitting back, twiddling my thumbs and staring at the wall above my monitor for a bit, I could delve back into the lore, turn to a trusty book, read a little ode, give my two cents on it. read about the current political tensions, check out the other CMDR's feelings on it, or check out what sites have been found by the rest of the commander's federation.

What think you all? Good idea? And any more ideas on what else could be added to this?
