Idea for free/cheaper Spectator Account

This is a bit strange, but I would like to invite my wife to my co-pilot’s seat as a passenger in order to enjoy the beauty of the Elite in VR.
I’m sure that the wife will never become a commander, so I don't want to buy another full account. It would be great if the game had an option of a free or relatively cheap passive co-pilot spectator even with some sort of penalties for main commander.

What are you think bout this? :)

I bought my wife an account for precisely this. I bought it on Steam sale for like $15. That's a pretty low-cost option. The second VR setup on the other hand...that wasn't a low cost option.
You're right, but I'm a VR Dev and already have a lot of headsets... but missed the sale. :)
Do my wife needs HORIZON expansion for co-piloting or just the common version?
I can see Elite Dangerous: Commander Deluxe Edition in Steam... eeh...

As an owner of Lifetime Expansion Pass I have no idea what each game version/phase/expansion means :)

Multicrew is a horizons only feature. (Despite the fact your crew cant get into the SRV, the MAIN element of Horizons...)

I often pass the VR headset to my wife e.g. fist time on a ship in VR, prettier Stations, interesting planets... I think the funniest one was in the T10(?) with the drop down to the 2 co-pilot seats... She wasn't best amused as she doesn't do heights

yes, multicrew is part of Horizons. Just wait 5 minutes - there will be another sale :)

Just a word of warning - Multicrew is pretty badly implemented. I don't have much trouble with it running 2 systems on the same subnet on the same switch, but you can get weird desync issues. Not really a problem for exploration, but in combat, MC/wings can cause problems. If you see weird behavior like targets not taking damage or getting shot by "invisible" enemies, best to restart the game.

I'm just guessing from the past, but I'd expect 1-3 sales coming on before December 31. - there will be Halloween, Black Friday, Christmas Countdown - and possibly Carrier Expansion.

As for handing her the stick in the middel of nowhere - "Darling, what does 'silent running' mean? And why is the ship making all these noises and sparks?"

Wait for a sale. I have two accounts just for this reason.

When I take people on VR spaceship rides, I have them in a headset, but I fly off my 2-D monitor so I can keep an eye on how there’re doing. It also makes it easier for me to work the controls on both computers to get the multi crew session sorted before we blast off.

I don't think Frontier will invest man-hours into not selling the game. 😜

I think Elite is pretty cheap, especially when it's on sale. (Just checked, lowest was 5.99€)
A ticket to my local zoo is 20€ and there I can also just watch and not ride the lions myself (just wanted to throw in a really bad comparison).

Remember to unbind the "Han Solo -button" i.e. jettison all cargo before you or anyone else flies your ship ;-)
