Idea for in-game story events - use Open to add depth to the story, while everyone gets general bits

I can agree that NPC replaced by FD employees gives nice touch and that some of events can be Open only = not a big deal at least for me even i play only in Solo or Private, since I saw that a lot of people had a good time even some killers and stream snipers tried to ruin the event..
In the end I see more positive than negative things here..

First of all, I agree that making core elements of story exclusive to Open is no go. I suspect this was chosen to keep in-game characters interactive - which turned out mixed results - so I don't think it is worth to burn FD at stake here.

However there's way to do it so everyone gets to take part, but Open players still gets something more. Like you distribute story bits via NPCs in all modes...but in Open you get extra layer for a story. Extra bits. A lot more extra bits. Ok, this would be hard to do for hunt like this, but in other events that would just add additional layer.

There's lot of trial and error involved to figure out what works and what not - and no, just giving date and then dropping aliens to say high wouldn't do that - but even such threaded story line like this could be done more interactively.

Ok, who are you, and what have you done with Pecisk?

If it went all open i would gladly join SDC and ruin every event instead of getting P@issed at my ruined game.

If you cant beat them.. join them

EDIT : So P i ssed is a bad word now ?

The last place they should be providing a different experience between open and solo is with storyline elements.
I'd be perfectly fine with an open "bonus" for things like powerplay, which is supposed to pit players against each other. But for storyline? Why on earth FD chose this path is beyond me. [sour]

One of the reasons for solo being online was for the shared state, and that to my mind includes storyline. Without that, then i think the solo players would have fair grounds to ask for true offline mode.

While I appreciate all these ideas and attempts to perform CPR on Open play can we not forget that, due to connection reasons, some of us can't do Open?

Because Open, is Open to everyone, there is no barrier or restriction.
Surely that is obvious.

If it was to be a Private Group that gets the "special" content, or the Dev driven Cmdr NPC, then which group gets it?

Do they pick one group at random?

Just the biggest group?

Would you be happy if it wasn't your group?

Why should I be excluded?
Why should I have to join that group to take part?
Why do you want to discriminate against me?
What have I don't to justify that in your mind?

Why should any of these entities be treated better than any other?
And I mean Solo / Group and Open.

Nope - not all players *can* play in Open - whether it be due to their internet connection (the game specifies no requirement other than a "Network Broadband Internet Connection") or they are XBox Live Silver members on XB1.

Add on to that, its fairly simple to experience solo play in Open with a fairly simple trick. All the bonuses, none of the downsides.... assuming the person sees downsides to playing in Open.

Well the mechanism we had was someone playing an NPC in open, by it's nature only a few people who were in the instance would have encountered the NPC.

The mechanism relies on the information being disseminated via the communty (which it very quickly was).

I mean in that respect the way it worked didn't require it to be available to everyone, and in fact it never would have been, even if open was the only mode available.
