So I have an idea that I have thought a lot about in the past 24 hours and talked it over with a friend. This thread might be a long read but I believe It really would add so much more to this already amazing game.
As far as I can tell (I've only played the game for about 2 weeks) there isn't much to do in unexplored systems other than, well explore I guess, and turn in your exploration data for some credits. I believe Frontier could expand on this system though.
What I have in mind (and it may have been said here before) is guild based systems. Let players create a guild, and then that guild can buy a system. Each system would have a different price depending on
Once a guild has bought the rights to that system they can build stations and outposts around the planets like we already see. The stations could either be bought (by no cheap amount) or perhaps be created using materials collected by players. There could be different types and and sizes of stations and outposts, the bigger the better but also more expensive. Once the station is complete it would serve like every other station with the added bonus of allowing players to set a “home base”. The guild members/station owner could set a fee to set that your home whether that be a flat fee or a weekly/monthly fee. You could store additional ships and cargo here. The station would also have a temporary docking station that way players cant take up all the space and interfere with re-fueling etc. Non-guild members could also be allowed to make their home with that guild if they so choose, maybe at an increased cost of staying there.
Each system could have different properties tied to it, like a toll to travel through or to mine there, or perhaps just a docking fee. More could be thought up on that subject, I haven’t fully explored it yet.
Once a guild has bought the rights to that system it would show which guild owns it rather than just being uncolonized. And since a guild now owns that system what fun would it be if you couldn’t organize a massive force and try to take it down?!
Imagine, a guild has bought a system, got together a rather impressive few stations, perhaps its the main guild hub in the galaxy, players are everywhere, and all of a sudden a rival guild warps in all at once and opens fire! If they win they can take over that system and claim it as theirs, if they lose, the guild has some repairing costs but they keep their system intact. If a player set a station as their home point and that station explodes then that player loses their ship and everything else that was there, so the risk of choosing the right guild to align with is crucial to keeping your stuff safe.
Stations would have their own automated defense system with NPC pilots to go with them (if the station is large enough and the guild/owner hired them). That way it can defend itself until help arrives.
In the end this adds a constant “tug-o-war” to the game, where players can form up and take over the galaxy.
I hope you enjoyed this rather large post, and hope others can build on this idea and maybe Frontier will make it a reality.

- Number of Planets/Stars
- Types of planets/asteroids/farm-able material
