Idea: mining SLF!

How about a ship-launched fighter armed with the abrasion blaster or sub-surface missiles? Obviously it wouldn't have its own pulse wave scanner or prospector limpets, but it could have the ability to see all surface/sub-surface deposit icons identified by the main ship's prospectors, and possibly all 'hot' asteroids identified by the pulse wave - basically, all mining-related HUD information could automatically be relayed from the main ship to the SLF.

It would be perfect for multi-crew mining teams, and/or for people mining in large, cumbersome ships (yes I use a T-9 for mining, why do you ask?). You could have two or even three ships working on the deposits at once with multi-crew, or if you're on your own in a large ship, you could switch to the SLF after using seismic charges and zip around blasting off the surface deposits while the collectors do their job.

It would also effectively function as an extra hard point, making it easier for cmdrs to carry the full mining suite without sacrificing too much of their defensive capability.

I'd like to see a really open view from the cockpit and have just an abrasion blaster and maybe 8 seismic charges. To get more charges you have to redock on the mothership to rearm. It would be neat to mount the PWS on the SLM and have the unmanned mothership follow you as run from rock to rock and even to be able to remote fire the prospector limpets from the SLM.

An additional command should be added to the SLF commands, and that is PARK HERE. When you command the ship to PARK HERE it will move slowly to the position of the SLM when the command was given. This would be useful when you need to get the ship away from the blast area and when you need to move it back, so the collectors can do their job.

If the ship has a size 6 or bigger hanger, and you should be able to launch an NPC controlled fighter and a SLM as the SLM has no offensive or defensive abilities. If attacked while you’re cruising in the SLM, it just would follow you when you switch back to the ship and would likely be destroyed in the resulting combat.
