Ideas for changes to odyssey

These changes come from my desire to want on foot and ship gameplay to tie together. I personally want on foot gameplay to depend on ship gameplay and ship gameplay to depend on on foot game play. Examples below

1: Require outfitting and purchasing a ship to be done on foot in the concourse.

2: Get rid of ALL on foot engineering mats, make the mats that the ships use shared between both, and then to introduce on foot mining tools for gathering engineering mats without getting rid of current tools for planetary rock shooting. Increase the amount of mats you get if you decide to use the hand held mining laser.

3: Introduce scrapping-the idea of where you find a crashed ship, nav beacon, or sattelite and take the current arc cutter from the maverick suit and gut the ship to get manufactured mats, obviously varied depending on what you scrap.

These are just some examples off the top of my head i'd like to see

Should probably be in the Suggestions forum?

Fdev puts these paid expansions into compartmentalized boxes because they have this idea that if they dont, it would be like pay to win if the expansion offers some kind of advantage to the existing gameplay.

So they make them basically self contained. I dont see that really changing anytime soon. As ill fitting as it is to a game like this.

I absolutely do not want to have to depart the ship to do what's already being done in current UI. This was something Eve Online experimented with and failed with miserably because it just took too damned long.

Eve literally implemented one room and a dock and a few UI features in said room. Nothing else. Let this game evolve if it can because right now its rolling over with maggots in it.

That'll be a great sales pitch, won't it - "Buy Odyssey, for three extra minutes walking every time you just want to use the shipyard screen!"

More integration between on-foot and in-space content, great - but it can't be done by just making the existing in-space content more time-consuming.

Sure, it has to evolve, but it can't evolve by just taking existing functions and making them take longer.

I don't disagree with that but I have noticed that any idea brought up on these forums is derided by a crew that wants the status to not change. And also putting context to your Eve comment. Crazy as it may seem FDev implemented the super basic design of what they were trying to do. I wish FDev would implement there economy model but dream and wishes. And I agree that creating new systems should not be needlessly grindy but it would nice for everything to not just be a menu option. If you have ever played the X games you would know what I mean.

It's not that I want the status quo to change, I just need whatever time I'm investing in things to actually reward the time I'm investing. I would like simplified materials for engineering, and that's more a clerical thing than a gameplay change. Adding a more interesting system for salvage would be outstanding. I like the idea of being able to take time with something like (akin to Shipbreakers, but with ground).

I see it's a very simple system that we have today, sure. But any change that requires getting out of the ship should be its own loop and have its own rewards/engagement.

For Economy? Yeah.. it'd be neat if we could get an economy that has production based on user interaction, not likely to happen though.

Menu options? I still think Horizon's menus were a hell of a lot better. (I don't need Windows Phone on my ship's HUD). As far as your reference to the X-series, yeah-- I get that. I've yet to really dive into X4 just because of how obtuse it is.

For me it's about where the gameplay actually is. So for Odyssey:
- missions, combat zones, exobiology: good fun, adds some variety to the space activities I was already doing, would be silly to replace with a menu option
- the concourse; having to walk a minute each way to talk to an NPC to ask them to bring up a holo-menu interface I could have had in my ship: not at all fun, one of the main reasons exobiology is the only Odyssey activity that's been incorporated into my normal gameplay
