Ideas for exploration!

So I mentioned in an earlier thread my pod/data core idea where by you can recover 5, 10 or 15 % of exploration data on ship destruction on the insurance screen charged at 500K, 1 mil and 1.5 mil per module. Here on some other ideas!

1. Random ship pieces/wreckage/rare asteroid chippings worth money but only found in a small number of systems. These can be sold back to factions for museum or library storage etc.

2. Passenger missions to take a science team or research team a certain number of light years out to collect data.

3. Take a probe and launch it at a sun, planet or rock to collect data then return within a certain time frame.

They could also easily add some more, even rarer than ELW finds;

- Earth like world with ancient cities

Remains of ancient cities detected on the surface, as well as a giant crater indicating a large asteroid impact 2.4 million years ago. The rate of decay in the ruins of the cities appears to coincide with the time of impact.

- Wasteland World

Remains of an ancient civilization detected. According to the amount of radioactive particles in the atmosphere, this planet appears to have suffered an all-out nuclear catastrophe some 2,000 years ago.

Early Industrial World

Indigenous sentient civilization detected. Judging by the amount of pollution in the atmosphere, there appears to be an early industrial civilization thriving on the surface, roughly on the level of early 20th century Earth. Can you say "nuclear vessels"? Just in case you get ideas, flight computer locked to 6 Mm closest allowed range.

..I could write up more examples (star turned to Red Giant, conditions on a previously populated planet changed, a mysterious attacker wiped out the population, hinting at the Thargoids, the list goes on) but you get the picture.

I mean, why not? Even a shorter exploration trip will reveal the galaxy is teeming with life - all the water worlds, gas giants with life, then Ammonia and ELWs.. go a 1000 ly in any direction and if you haven't found any of those you've been very unlucky. So, why not have a bit more advanced life, or remains of the same, as a sort of a very rare exploration super jackpot? Best thing is it wouldn't take that much work to implement, really.

I like those ideas as well! However I've seen so many I've been out weeks/months threads it would be nice if those people could backup and save some of what they did. A small percentage isnt going to overload servers. The problem for me is bounty hunting etc you lose a couple of hours work where as exploring is such a massive punishment if you get blown up.

well i dont know about you guys, but ive yet to see a burger van on my travels,, if someone set up in Sadge, Barnies etc theyre gonna make a killing

There was one in the Loop but I got a bit overexcited at the prospect of a fresh meal and rammed him into a star. Sorry...

I am surprised that FD don't have player discovery as the default method for introducing updates.
This wouldn't impact the astronomical exploration much but discovering things in general is fun.

New ships and modules could have plans, specs and images leaked this way months before they fully enter the game.
It could also apply to story line events and content updates.

Your scanner notices an unusual signal/ship/wreckage and on investigation you find a data module that unlocks the discovery, posting it on Galnet with your CMDR name.

A "burger van" might be a little ridiculous, but you make a very valid point. If distant areas of the galaxy can be reached by players, there should be a lot more out there even from humans such as the occasional crazy lone npc pilot or even colony, derelict space stations and ships, and so on. A science station or military outpost around Sgr A* would definitely make sense and would help flesh out the galaxy.

ideas,, well for 1 thing,, i wouldnt ever want to see anything done to the game that somehow made the galaxy feel smaller and easier to travel,, wormholes etc aarrrgghhh,,,

A "burger van" might be a little ridiculous, lol your having a laugh right lol,,,

what would be good is if we could take these things out there, say for example, we all, with the right ship,, or wing of ships get to terraform a few planets, and or put stations in orbit,, but this is limited, we only get a few each, maybe even just 1,

Well, I'd buy a burger. Nothing quite like time dilation to keep burgers fresh longer. :D
