Ideas for New Mission type, Story missions and World Events

So here's some ideas along with some mock ups for a new type of mission, story missions and world events.

Story Missions

Each Superpower, mainly Federation and Empire (Maybe Alliance as well), will have story missions, the reputations panel will show story mission progress for the power your pledged to instead of superpower reputations, for example, if your pledged to Zachary Hudson, the right panel will show story mission progress and the ability to select the next mission after the current story mission is complete. These missions will have various gameplay aspects, Combat, Trade, and Exploration, with various takes on each to make them interesting, as well as some lore on the different powers. In order to gain access to these story missions you will need to pledge to an affiliated power. Every other story mission will award Federal or Imperial Naval ranks (eg. Mission 1 gives recruit rank, mission 3 rewards cadet). Some story missions will require a wing anywhere from 2-4. Story missions will also reward Credits, Modules, and materials. Difficulty level for these missions will scale up after each mission.

New Mission Type

Convoy Escort Missions- Convoy Escort missions will require you to go to the mission destination to link up with the NPC ships you need to escort, the mission will also highlight the route that the NPC's will take, upon arrival in each system there will be a brief cool down before the NPC ships you are escorting will jump to the next destination. Along the route you and the NPC ships will be attacked by NPC pirates, you must defend the convoy during the cool down period until they jump away, if too many of the ships you are escorting are destroyed the mission fails. Mission payouts will depend on the length of the Convoy's journey.

World Events

World events are special in-game instances that are only available for a limited time, say, two and a half hours, after that the instance will no longer be available. These world events are a mix of PvE and PvP activities and offer rewards upon successful completion. There are three world event types:

Fleet Operations

Fleet Operations are PvP/PvE instances available to all players that are pledged to a power (these instances would not appear otherwise) that appear at random near the border of another powers territory. The goal of these instances is to be the first ones to successfully route an opposing powers dreadnaught. The ones that successfully achieve this are given credit rewards which are scaled depending on participation, and the amount of damage done as well as the number of enemy CMDR's or NPC's destroyed. Depending on the outcome, returning to the system will show a distress signal source for either Fed or Empire.

Xeno Operations

Xeno Operations are PvE instances that appear randomly in the Pleiades Sector (or even in the core worlds). The goal of these instances is to defend your dreadnaught fleet (either Fed or Empire) against Thargoid attack. There will typically be three Thargoid ships and various numbers of Thargoid Scouts in the instance. There are also three difficulty tiers that will be displayed, Tier 1 being Cyclops variants, Tier 2 being Basilisk, Tier 3 being Medusa, the rewards for completion will scale depending on participation, damage, kills, and difficulty tier. If the Thargoids successfully get your dreadnaughts health to zero the mission fails, and if you return to the area you will see a distress signal source which will show the remains of the destroyed fleet.

Squadron Operations

Squadron Operations are triggered if two or more Squadron Fleet Carriers are in the same system. The goal is to route the other Squadrons Fleet Carrier.

Frontier: First Encounters had hand crafted story missions & I think ED should as well though I'd prefer it to focus on a proper career path for Empire & Federation commanders with a ranking system that actually meant something. You could make it retrospectively valuable by tying achievements/awards/medals to both a rank & the completion of story mission X. Ideally the missions would be a series of branching/follow on ones that would all have to be completed and as they'd use the normal missions system as a base they'd also always be relevant to players new & old.
