For me, this was incredibly exciting news! This isn't another ohh no, the consoles are coming.
It remains to be seen how this will be integrated though I'd love for us to share the same servers, instances etc. I've been waiting a long time for cross platform multiplayer...
For elite, control scheme isn't quite the same issue as say a fps, since many pc players use a game pad anyway. And just as it is on a pc now, if you really want to use a hotas, it simply means picking a platform to match.
What I really really really would love to see is a bold decision to allow players to interact, whilst naturally keeping the communities initially separate.
What do I mean?
Option 1 create a station infrastructure like the one we have now but thousands of light years away it's not like there isn't systems to do this) , make this new area for Xbox , player culture maybe a little different (we all expect more war like) , but the culture will fit the community based there.
Still players from either side can venture into the other's space seamlessly, how these two separate cultures interact would be entirely left to the players.
Option 2 ) you could get even bolder in the design! Make that separate community the thargoids (or other alien race) , it'd take lots of implementation, so probably less viable, but just imagine the possibilities. It'd be ground breaking, and account readily for any out of game factors that make the two races different, e.g. graphics, controls etc, without comprising on one side of the fence.
Maybe they'd be peace? But probably more like all out war
Any other ideas?
