Identifying bookmarks by clicking them

I have many old galaxy map bookmarks and sometimes I can't remember why I set them. I usually diligently name them, but that only helps if I look at my bookmark list and try to find them from there. What I'd like to have is to be able to click the system, body or station where the bookmark is on and see how it's named. This would be even more useful with the squadron bookmarks when the person setting them can be someone else.

Or perhaps an option to display Bookmark names rather than the system name on the Galmap. The Manage Bookmarks section of the Galmap is an improvement (since it now displays the system name as well as the bookmark name, which I don't think it used to) and much appreciated but it is difficult to marry up the list with the map view; slow and cumbersome to say the least.
Sorry for the necro, but this is the most recent post I can find on this topic and would rather add to existing posts rather than duplicate topics.

I vote for this ☝️

They added a way to identify friends from the map. Same method would work for bookmarks too. Not the prettiest solution, but it would work.

Agree... this has been a major pain. The whole bookmarking system needs another update, even google a thousand years earlier allows me to drop a pin where my car is parked, but I can't mark a canyon location on a planet?!

Sorry for the necro, but the situation hasn't changed. I just thought about the problem again and made a picture.

Wouldn't it be better to have the bookmark name where it unhelpfully says "squadron bookmark"? Might cause trouble when there's multiple children bookmarks in the system, but on the system on Galaxy Map level it should work.

It's weird that this still isn't implemented, it's just text.
But if it is more complicated than I imagine, at least have squadron bookmarks behave the same as personal ones.
For personal bookmarks, in the bookmark manager you can see the system name next to the bookmark name.
For squadron bookmarks there is no way to figure out which bookmark belongs to which system other than clicking on them in the bookmark manager and seeing where it goes to.

Lately I've been enjoying a lot of exploration and exobiology scanning. It has been satisfying and the rewards give me enough sense of accomplishment to continue.
However, the limitations of the bookmark system are glaringly obvious and I hope this feature can get a much-needed overhaul - especially for the upcoming PowerPlay 2.0 gameplay. The need to track all kinds of information within a complex 3D map is critical to this new feature, especially for squadrons, and so establishing a more efficient user experience within the map will enhance the enjoyment of reaching our own gameplay goals.

Additional helpers would be:
  • The ability to add personal notes for each bookmark, which could be a menu toggle to expand within the system information panel.
  • More bookmarks - 200 is a paltry amount for the vast scale of our galaxy, and the suggested filters below may help players mitigate any risk of clutter. Alternately, provide a separate map mode for tracking locations that does not have any functional limitation like bookmarks, which can let players quickly select systems and understand relative spatial locations.
  • A set of tags assigned to the bookmarks using the same galaxy map filters - eg. Powerplay alignment, Security level, Government, Civilisation, Economy/Market, Astronomical features including planetary body features.
  • Filtering of said tags within the manager menu to facilitate convenient referencing.
  • A set of icons to choose from to customize the bookmark icon! ⚠️❕🔸🏴‍☠️☣️💰🔒⚔️🛡️⭐🔥🪐🌙
