Idiot at Maia near Merope

Some stupid player just blew me up at Maia near Merope for no reason - was just about to dock and he in a Python hit me with loads of missiles. As my previous docking station was all the way back in the bubble and I have restarted all the way back there - that means I have lost all my progress today getting to the Pleiades. A whole day wasted.

So thats it. No more open game playing for me from now on its strictly solo.

I can deal with pirates etc but not stupid idiots who blow people up for no reason. This is the reason I was against a multiplayer game to begin with. A load of idiots out there. So yeah thats it if I can be bothered to retrace my progress at some point it will be purely done in solo from now on. I really dont need the hastle of playing with other people it really is just a pain in the backside.

If Frontier want to develop multiplayer gameplay good on them - but from now on I will be playing in a closed group of me and my son or just solo.

Just wanted to vent that annoyance. What a XXXX some people are.

Edit: I stand corrected!
You'll now get lectured that it's a dangerous galaxy, that life's not fair and that this is how the game should be...

That is a real heavy hit you have taken there. Sorry to hear of your loses and how it will effect your game in the future. Remember: NPCs can be bad guys too.

Amen to that. I used to do quite ok in my Python but recently get my behind handed to me, repeatedly.

I'd say NPCs don't kill for the lolz, but that appears to have changed recently.

OP, it sucks, you've learnt what a lot of other people have. If you want to play without grief, you have to do it in Solo. Open is for newbies, die hards and trollers. There are some legitimate PvP players too, but you'll be hard pushed to find them.

I sympathise with your cause but there are some things here that jump out at me, I shall list them thusly:

It took you a day to get out to Merope? what in the cupcake were you flying!? (yes I know cupcake but profanity)

Why was he an idiot? (just playing devil's advocate here) I mean meany, bad guy, at, poo poo face a whole load of words but why idiot specifically? he could have had a reason for destroying you but you just don't know what it is? and then to brand all the other players who play in open idiots also, risky move. that is like blaming an entire culture for the evilness of one individual. which is bad.

and lastly welcome to solo/private I play here almost exclusively unless I am specifically out to PVP :D

Just fly in Solo/PG and problem is solved.

P.S. But maybe you will get some satisfaction, if the attacker is reading the forum. Maybe he/she will come with some really funny "roleplaying" explanation for his action. Something like "We, the tyGroupManiacs from Lembava declared the martial law at Merope and no one is allowed to land there, especially Sunday evening". :)

I am a huge supporter of Open play, PVP and Piracy and i think this is NOT how the game should be.

You have just been cuddled by cuddly cuddlers OP and most of the fault is on FDev holding up on implementing a proper crime and punishment system.

Edit: Wait a second Merope is not a governed system right? Sorry op if its anarchy all bets are off.

I don't play open to PvP, I run and use ships (clipper and Cobra) to run with style. Open to me, is more about the chance, of meeting humans, whom, apparently, are better than the challenge, of NPCs. Ok, if you say so.

Diehard here. OP, if you ever play in Open again, just remember that whenever you see the hollow ship icon on your radar, you need to shift to a whole different level of alertness. Whenever I'm traveling to a player hotspot such as Merope (and by diehard I mean Open is the only mode), I'm constantly checking my comms bar and looking at the friends tab to see if there are any unknown CMDR's nearby in my instance. If there are, I either try to scan them to get an idea of their loadout, or give them a wide berth. And when I come in for a landing at the station I come in red hot. Ditto for leaving the station. If you ever see the hollow icon change from a rectangle to a triangle, then you know without a doubt that they're up to no good.

The trick to surviving in Open is situational awareness.

It takes like 30 minutes to get merope in an FDL. 5 minutes in an Asp. How is that a "whole day wasted"? Credits sure, exploration data, well yeah. But a whole day?

That's my question too, I'm headed there right now I'm my Corvette with some commodities to scare off a Capital ship or two to do some experiments and it does not take any where near that much time.

No disrespect: Missile testing would do for me?

How do you know? The bubble is a big place, or have I missed the bit when the OP said where he came from?

Ah, Ha, I, See, what, you, did, there!

Maybe I over dramatised :p

Great ships though, Clipper and Cobra are fantastic. Do you do barrel-rolls? I do barrel-rolls.

To be fair, the crime and punishment system should be in proportion to the death penalty. NOT to the "inconvenience" of having your ship blown up in circumstances that happen to be inconvenient for the player who was attacked. The OP could have stopped at a station in-between his origin and his destination to have a "save point" in the event of being blown up so that all his progress wasn't lost for example, in that case an entire "day" wouldn't have been wasted. Similar an explorer could have been interdicted and killed after returning from a month-long trip from the bubble, this doesn't mean a CMDR choosing to engage in PVP "intended" to have that player lose a month of progress. FD has intentionally given a very "light" death penalty (5% of total ship cost) and any crime and punishment system should be scaled to this type of consequence, not to incidental effects of "progress" a player might loose. A player "wasting an entire day" because someone blew them up in PVP is not something that should be more "harshly" punished than blowing up someone at CG where they were able to respawn instantly at the nearby station. Players often confuse a consequence of gameplay with the "intent" of what another player's actions were meant to achieve.

Hehe, nope, I think all those guys are UA-bombing Ceos and Sothis for the moment... ;-)

To be fair, an hour play session can be the "day's" play.

And I remember my first trip out that way, ages back. It seem to recall it took me about 3 or 4 hours trying to find LYR systems that stocked the variety of outfitting parts for my build and budget.

The the OP, sorry for the loss.
