Idiot authority vessels keep flying into my gunsights when I try to kill wanted ships

Idiot authority vessels keep flying into my gunsights when I try to kill wanted ships. PLEASE make them stop do that. At the very least let them have some tolerance for being hit while I hunt this wanted criminal. I mean if they insist on flying so close to wanted ships I am firing at...

It's one of those things that can just be avoided by training yourself to be aware of what's going on around you to be honest. Until/if the mechanic is fixed, then it's pretty easy to avoid it. In my dream, you get a sort of 'grace' period if the secondary shot occurs within a certain radius of active combat to a non-targeted ship or something like that.

Don't just hold the trigger down, keep an eye on your scanner and potentially close ships and when you fire, fire in short controlled bursts.

They are the authority. You are not. They are the cops. You are not. Hold your fire.

For me personally gimballed weapons are worth the cost. It will help with strays for the most part as far as shots going past. As far as them flying in front of your sights, maybe hold off until you are closer to the ship? I don't know your flying style so I can't give a lot of help.

Two words: trigger discipline.

Plus it's a dogfight. You expect all the ducks to line up in a row? You seriously believe you're not going to have ships zipping around in a hectic fashion?

I await your next post when you criticize the terrible game design because you bump into a ship and lose half your hull.

Hardly comparable. A single pulse laser shot hits a friendly vessel 1m from the evil terrorist criminal I finally tracked down. System Authority: "FORGET THE TERRORIST! OUR FRIEND HIT US ONCE!!! DESTROY!!!!"

this is a problem, im sure they will alter that behaviour a bit. (my suggestion was: damage to shield needs to be done bevore it counts as aggressive act against npc).

Seriously guys? You think a cop would fly directly in front of someone else's blazing guns?

This is a gameplay mechanic that needs fixing, not faux context applied to it.

Its realistic, it happened all the time in WW2 dogfights.

In Gulf war 1 1990 (albeit on the ground ) I think the yanks killed more Brits than the Iraqis.

Are you American Mikkel?

wait until you come across a player who runs in front of you intentionally, so that you go Wanted and he has a "legit" bounty on you...

Yeah, those WW2 fighters had a pretty wonky IFF systems in place.... ;)

Oh, and we're a lot like SPACESHIPS too.

The AI's are stupid and have no situational awareness, so that means we all need to be aware of what the morons are doing so that this doesn't happen (or worse the idiots boost into you and blow you up :().
.
What does annoy me is that the AI's suffer no penalty for accidently shooting us. They don't get a bounty and I'm not just talking about the cops but other AI bounty hunters.

Booya. This. I'd love to see them lay charges against each other, but wouldn't really wind up being satisfying gameplay; can you imagine one pirate weaving amongst a fleet and having each ship turn on each other? *muahahahaaaa*.

I suppose its better than the Beta enforcement-by-suicide techniques...

I've had authority fly BETWEEN my target and I at a distance where the target ship blocks my entire view, so the radar is a blob, my situational awareness is to keep from crashing my weakened shields into its. The authority didn't fire a shot, wasn't attempting a pacification action :)

I'd vote for mechanics tweaking myself.

A lot of people are being dismissive of the problem, but I think they're being a little too forgiving here. It's easy to say "just watch your fire", but when you're in an intense fire fight with a hostile, you find yourself within less and 1 km and then BOOM a police ship flies out of no where right into your line of fire it's hard to not hit them by accident. If I were in that police ships position, and a friendly human player hit me I wouldn't instantly turn on them, I'd tell them to watch it at least a few times (and apologise for flying into their line of fire).

Elite is known for being merciless. Death for docking infractions, for example. A lot of it is the way of the world, and you adapt (or die - or at least get wanted!) Have to admit I never look whose fire I'm crossing into when I am chasing a bad guy, so not sure why the authority ships oughta do something even I'm not doing!
