If anyone finds 93 tons of gold ...

... you're welcome to it.

I was flying into Asselus Prime and was interdicted by a couple of cobras.

Just for once I thought "Hang it all, I'll engage the blighters."

It did not end well

Oh well, back to the sidey for a while. Note to self "Do not engage pirates when life savings in the cargo hold" :D

This is what I love about it. People complaining about losing their ships, well that is all part of the game. You build up, you get adventurous and then you lose it all in once silly moment.

Do it again...

That's part of the beauty of the game. Losing your ship isn't going back to the beginning, it's just another chapter in your story to becoming Elite. How boring would Lord of the Rings be if they just destroyed it at the start? As with all good stories, it's not about the end...it's the journey!

Hmm, might have been some of you gold I picked up in Morgor? Perhaps the pirates took it that way to sell on the black market, but got jumped before they reached the station...

My condolences.

Sadly I don't think interdiction locations persist as USSs after the event, although IMO they ought to so that you could go back and try to recover some of your lost cargo or do a bit of salvaging (once that is implemented).

Perhaps that's one for the devs: in these circumstances if the AI ships don't collect all the gold (or other goods) add them as a one-off to the list of things to be found at a local USS?

And meanwhile, in the very same corner of the 'verse...

"Gee... TONS OF GOLD! Enough of this crappy Sidey, I'm gonna buy meself a Coubrah and be a PIRATE! Hussah!"

:D

Sad to hear of your loss. The lesson is, never ever ever put so much value in the 'hold that you couldn't pay the insurance.

...of course, I violate that rule on a daily basis myself. Why play safe when you can scrape another couple of creds' worth in profit off this run? :D

Now... what would you have said if it had been players, not NSC's, that punched your ticket?

Not as interdiction spots perhaps, but AFAIK the point in space is still there and if you slow down, you can drop out of SC anywhere you like. I've done this on many occasions. They only question is whether the gold is still there and whether it's possible to find it. I'm not going to bother. it was my mistake and I'll gladly take the consequences.

I think I'll spend a bit of time learning to shoot. Might come in handy

Thats how you win it , great spirit +1

It's just all part of the game :)

With good attitude the burn of defeat won't be nearly as devastating as the sweetness as pulling off a major stunt by a hair and making some serious $$$$$

Agreed. It just made me wonder though, for those players that do achieve their goal of playing the game to get the best ship available (based on their personal preference of course), tool it up the the most powerful weapons, and then end up with 3 qaudzillion credits in the bank. What do they do then?
Will they have considered themselves to have won?
What else would motivate them to continue playing?

It seems to me that that's a very tunnel visioned idea of what Elite is about.

In it's current state this game does seem to be more a financial simulator with space salted in. I fear this will turn in to Sim City and we'll just end up making decisions based on what is most profitable, not whats fun. It is early beta tho and we'll see.

Well that is kind of expected. Pretty much every action you perform is either going to end up making your money or losing it.

I want a Cobra, and I want a nice weapons / tool loadout, and I fully expect to burn through quite a lot of credits trying my hand at having fun.

Smuggler.

Merc.

Pirate.

Bounty Hunter.

Explorer.

Whatever I fancy doing today.

Well actually, I expect burning credits by paying for ship insurance a lot while failing at above activities, but... you get the idea.

EXACTLY. Anyone who disagrees is playing the wrong game.
