IF Elite had atmospheric worlds with cities i could believe i played it tonight.

Get the free tech demo aircar from oculus home.

its not a game as such, just flying around a rain soaked bladerunnery city but the graphics style was similar to what I could imagine in elite.
worth a look imo and its free

Yeah, it's great, immediately reminded me of Elite. Very relaxing too with the rain.

This sounds interesting. I will check it out tonight after the Thargoid lore stream.

While in oposition to the OP i played last night, i would really enjoy some new planet types, especially ones with atmosphere, inhabited or not. To prowl through a cloudy sky with rain hitting the canopy glas... or gas giants, man i would love to skim through the outer cloud layers of a gas giant.
I really hope, the team responsible for the awesome planets we already have, has been working on such new planet type generators and assets in the past 20 months. We all know, that it takes time to make this good, but at some point impatience starts to grow.

Off topic: i found sort of a sidequest in Maia last Tuesday... I never read local news, but this time i did for no special reason. An explorer went missing and his last known position was mentioned. I had nothing other in mind, so i just checked the mentioned system and found a listening post, and a trace, that led me to the explorers crashed ship. I was totally surprised to get a small but fully narrated log out of the ship. I am now searching for the things that were mentioned in that log. Well done Frontier, such things are awesome!

Nice, I'll give it a try this weekend. Does it have HOTAS support or is just through the standard Oculus touch controllers?

dunno to be honest, i did not look and just used xbox pad. it would not surprise me if its pad only as its just a 1 man band tech demo AFAIK. the guy posts on the forums and is wondering where to take it. its a great proof of concept but no game in there yet

(my vote would be some sort of g-police game)

Someone posted about this a few weeks ago, but I could never find it. I found it in the gallery section last night. Pretty cool and relaxing flying around, but the yaw control is too sensitive. Also, be sure to hit the menu and up the graphics quality. You can't fly into the clouds, but the ground looks really bad from up high. And no need to try and fly off the map, but there is a small Easter egg if you run out of fuel. It's a very cool little demo and I'd love to see cities in ED.

You can use the X-box controller or Touch controllers.

I tried this game but in all honestly I found "discovering space 2" much more resembling Elite and with atmospheric planet landings. It really shows the potential of atmospheric landings that can be in Elite. Atmospheric landings makes it so much more alive! I just wish there were a way to use a hotas to control your ship instead of the xbone ctrlr.

We won't see anything like this in Elite. I knew that from the moment a watch a youtube video of David Braden talking about passenger missions for 20 minutes. I honestly think he has lost the plot. I mean, Engineers pffff!
