If I bought Odyssey with steam, is there a way to use it independent of steam?

As the title states. I am having issues with steam and I want to unlink elite from steam. I bought elite from frontier and the odyssey through steam. If I run the launcher without steam, Only horizons shows up

If you got Elite from Frontier, you should launch it using the FD launcher.
You should have gotten Odyssey from Frontier too...

Mixing game providers is always a source of trouble

Open ticket with support. I play both ways on my gaming pc (no steam) or via GFN (steam) on two accounts and no issues.
Maybe you will need download standalone frontier launcher and do clean installation…(if steam do trouble it’s imo good solution)

no as far as I am aware you bought the odd from steam it must be launched from steam
you bought hor through fd it can use both...……….
if you bought odd directly from fd it can use both not the other way round making the direct purchase superior
(that's probably why the price difference two direct download sources you get what you pay for I suppose)

Wrong. I have mixed purchases (older) and if you can run ED from standalone launcher then buying dlc on steam isn’t issue and you can still play that dlc without steam. I purposely asked support about this in advance and got reply that it works and is allowed. If OP purchased originally ED directly from Frontier then he shouldn’t have issues (if yes, then it’s for support to solve it).

april 24th 2019 it all changed if I rem correctly no longer the case I am afraid if you bought using steam b4 that date you could indeed use both correct
and that is no longer the case (steam and fd had a divorce of a kind fd got the kitchen sink so...………………..)

Which year? 🙂. As I wrote above, Im using two accounts which i can play both ways and in both cases I purchased Odyssey dlc on steam. But seriously, OP best option is contact support directly, they are usually very helpful in solving such issues.

If you have your Frontier account linked to the Steam account that owns Odyssey, you don't need to launch the game via the Steam client, so long as you log in with that Frontier account.
Of course if you want to unlink the Steam account from your Frontier account, you're probably out of luck, as your license exists on Steam only.

its mentioned there about april 24th basically
Non-key Steam licenses must be run from the Steam account that made the purchase, via linking, and use of the 'Steam log in' button. They cannot be run from a different Steam account, nor a standalone or Epic installation of the game.
but a support ticket will be your best course of action if you cannot resolve advice given in this disputed thread as suggested

Hey CMDR,

Thanks for getting in touch in regards to Odyssey access.

Looking at your second frontier account under xxxxxx, I can see that you own a standalone purchase of ED from the frontier store.

If you have redeemed a Steam partner key and purchased Odyssey on Steam, it will work with this account. This frontier account is currently linked to the following Steam account yyyyyyyy so you will need to purchase Odyssey on this steam account.

Let us know if there's anything else we can help with.

Kind regards,

hmmmm I see your point official statements seem conflicted
if you have redeemd a KEY meaning an older purchase pre april 24th as that's when keys where issued is a keyword in that personal repy methinks, still not sure at all
its the part "it will work on this account" still needs clarification imo
but as you suggested support are great and should clear things up in a jiffy for the op as to his privalidges which I believe differ from yours

Forgot to copy my reply 😃

Thank you very much for info. I linked today my second account to Steam and purchased there Odyssey DLC for it. For play through Steam it worked well, standalone access I can test (and play) next week. You can close this ticket now, in case of need I will open a new.

Kind regards

……………,
Standalone access I use regularly too. Support reply may sound little confusing, but fact is that it’s working smoothly for me all the time. Well, I guess I posted here enough info, If it’s not enough, you can contact support.
