If I buy the game on steam, do I have to start again?

Hopefully someone has the game on both platforms :)

Like some others, I want the game on steam, and if I'd known it was coming I'd have waited.

I'm beginning to think FD's silence means it won't happen, so I'm thinking I will just buy it on steam.

When you run the game through steam, do you then log in to it separately (meaning I could use my existing account) or does it put you straight in (meaning I have to start again, and won't bother)?

So you're asking if your existing account will automagically appear in the NEW account you're going to buy through Steam?

The game installer is one thing, and can be via the Elite launcher or Steam. What account you login to, is another thing. What you're planning to do is get a new account, and you will start with a Sidewinder and 1000Cr

I have both and yes, the Steam install does have its own login/installer, so you can choose to log in with your current account or make a new account if you wish (which is what I did as I wanted second commander)

Perfect, thanks for your reply.

If you create a new account can you then later log in with your other account, or does the login only appear the once?

You can only log into one account at a time, but I swap between the two regularly without any problem.

They've not been silent on it they merely stated it will take a few weeks before they can give a definitive answer.

FDEV have over 400,000 pre-Steam customers and it's not as simple as it being free to generate keys as the people in the main steam thread like to suggest on a daily basis. FDEV may well be locked into a deal to provide all future DLC expansions to all Steam clients via Steam's own platform in which case moving all their customers to Steam has a massive future cost in terms of Steam taking a percentage of each and every one of these DLC sales.

Something as complex as this needs a renegotiation of the terms of their agreement hence "a few weeks".

You should just hold out and wait for an official response.

OK, dumb question, but what's the big deal about being on Steam? Are there some advantages to playing a game on Steam as opposed to not? Never used Steam (obviously) so I have no clue why everyone thinks moving to Steam is a good thing.

FD's silence? There was an update via twitch yesterday. You can see the two previous quotes from MB in my SIG.

Should the mods mergevthisvwith any if the other numerous Steam threads? All the questions are answered there.
