In ED there is a lot more Environment than Players, so it can only really be a mainly PvE experience unless players actively want to participate in PvP and arrange to meet at certain locations for that. Large amounts of piracy against players just is not going to happen in this game. 400 billion places to hide...

I completely agree with you, but I gave up my hope on getting some PVP fun in this game except in rare cases and randomly.
I really don't understand why it would be that hard to add some match making and 8 vs 8 matches in encapsulated instances to satisfy the people who are hungry for some uncomplicated, non random PVP. The sad thing is, there is no other comparable game where I could get a similar experience, the flight model in ED is just great. I've made a suggestion here how this could be added in a fashion it would fit well into the game and won't hurt the carebears who don't want to get dragged into PVP. http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=22747
